it’s faster around the ring than many classic “sports cars” ever were, runs faster quarter miles than most of the muscle cars everyone worships, and is probably the best handling car under $35k.

Here here! They’re great little sports cars. I’m planning on buying one next year. The only big decision I’m struggling with right now is Soft Top or Retractable Fastback. Opinions from current MX-5 owners are welcomed.

False, the engine/exhaust sound is terrible. I barely fit. I hate the way it looks. Those are reasons to hate, that have nothing to do with masculinity.

One thing I saw noted in some studies about the death rate: it is abnormally high since at the outbreak the medical facilities in Wuhan were completely overwhelmed. The death rate of known cases since Feb 1 is 0.7%. Again, probably lower since there are many people who are probably infected but not counted as a known case. Still deadlier than the flu, but not actually the 2-4% numbers being thrown around.

The BRZ/Toyota 86 twins are a great alternative to the Miata. I grew up with a first gen Miata in the family and test drove the ND Miata and BRZ back to back. The BRZ was the more fun sports car. Sharper feel, less body roll, more room, an actual trunk. The only thing the new Miata did better was power delivery, and maybe sound, although neither sound that great. I was pretty disappointed that the new Miata did not give the same feel as the 1991 model I learned to drive stick on. It’s still a solid sports car but it just didn’t have the same grin factor. My mom is pushing 70 and still rips around in her 91 Miata.
Ultimately though I bought a low mileage BMW 128i with a 6 speed manual. A few suspension tweaks later it feels almost as good as the BRZ and also has better highway manners and a super sweet, silky smooth naturally aspirated in-line 6.
Porsche Cayman is still the dream car though. Got a chance to drive the 718 model with the turbo 4 at the PEC LA, man what a sweet driving machine.
