The US isn’t even actively testing people, unlike South Korea or Japan (where the number of cases continue to increase). Anyone who wishes to get tested in the US is mostly out of luck unless they have previously traveled to Asia. The scary thing is the recent cases of community transmission on the west coast- especially when they didn’t have any travel history linked to Asia. Even worse- having to wait days for a testing kit to arrive at UC Davis Medical Center to confirm what was a suspected COVID19 patient. This is what 2020 healthcare and bureaucracy look like in America? The numbers of cases are growing in S. Korea for example, largely due to finding the source of outbreaks- and *actively* testing anyone with symptoms (whether or not they traveled to China). Unfortunately for Americans in the US, having symptoms alone won’t get you tested unless you’re in critical condition. ??? The US needs to get more testing kits available ASAP and allow anyone with severe flu like symptoms to be able to test regardless of their travel history. To me, that’s the next best thing to do to help ease any fears of community transmission. If there’s nothing to hide, why not just do it for the public’s sanity? And also to prevent a public panic that will negatively affect the economy and stock market? We should have already had more testing kits and been actively testing people (especially those arriving on Asia flights) **yesterday** And to think we **haven’t** even been screening people flying in from overseas as a precaution. So anyone with the virus can fly into the US easily.
