Spirit Captain on 6th year pay.
Dec 15th paycheck shows $306k YTD.
Flica shows 775 hours flown for the year.
Live in base. Lots of opportunities for premium trips. DC maxed out ($33,600) by mid November, so a “bonus” check is expected for remaining contributions owed at the end of next month.
Days off is subjective I guess. Departing Day 1 after 10pm or RTB by 6am it’s hard not to consider that a “day off”. But I’d guess 10-14 days off a month.
I suppose that’s not too shabby for a “low tier pilot”...

Same with returning to base by 6am. I don’t show up to my house after a transcon or Caribbean redeye bright eyed and bushy tailed ready to play all day with my kids at 8am after that.
Maybe you don’t have a family... but yeah, those are work days. Like you said, subjective.

Reporting at 10pm is not a day off. If I report at 10pm I leave my house at 7:30pm. And for me, that’s going to be a 3-6 hour flights, so I’d better be rested, which means a nap at home. This is a not a “day off”, but a “day preparing for work followed by work”.

The part that isn't subjective: I often do 36 hour 3 days (11pm show, 1 leg, 24 hour rest, 1 leg back, done by 8am. Pays 15 hours.), for most that would be a 2 day trip, as long as you show before noon, but at NK in LAS it is 3 days on the schedule, and feels like 2 days of work.
(well, it does to me, subjectively....)

And I don’t need a nap for a three hour flight.
Wake up, play with my kids, send them off to school, pick them up, give them dinner and put them to bed. Then go to work. Hard not to consider that a “day off”. With a little “work” at the tail end.
So yes, “subjective” is indeed the word.
For $306k YTD, I’m not going to complain.
At all.
(Maybe a little.)
