Maybe you should. Not that other issues aren’t important but I’d say how I make money is at the top of my list. And we get compensated based on a union negotiated contract. If airlines weren’t closed shop you can bet there’d be a lot of hobbyists and dreamers that we work with that would do this job for half. Once they stop paying dues the power of the union gets diminished and eventually gets made irrelevant so even willing members drop out. The result lower pay and work rules over time. You can see it in any right to work state.

its funny how many pilots think they could negotiate these contracts on a personal basis.

Or maybe I should keep voting the way I feel is best. I didn’t say it’s not important. I’m just saying that some weigh other things at a higher value. Maybe some people don’t value money as much as you do? Or maybe they would be just as happy doing this job for less if it meant getting that higher priority item in their life? Or maybe if it would be as bad as you say, we might have just gone and made good money doing something else? It may not be about the things you think it’s about, like being able to negotiate your own wage. I’m pro-labor union in the private sector. But I weigh that against my other priorities when I get into the ballot box. Especially considering that worst case scenarios each side screams is never going to happen.

There isn’t anyone for organized labor anymore. One side panders to it and the other openly doesn’t like it.

What is the greatest weapon a union has? Arguably, the ability to strike.

Look back at the last legacy airline strikes and what do you find.

Eastern went on strike, Bush didn’t order them back.
AA went on strike, Clinton ordered them back.
NWA mechs went on strike(solo, no support), Bush didn’t order them back.

So who really lets organized labor use their weapon?

In a previous life, I worked with a bunch of PanAm, Eastern and Braniff guys. All the Eastern guys hated Bush for not ordering them back. They thought the strike would be ended by the President and when it wasn’t, they weren’t prepared for the nuclear option.

Interesting. I've never heard any former EAL guys blame shift to Bush before, always Lorenzo at fault for that one. That scenario would have went down much differently today, with the airlines being publicly traded now.

So $14000 + $16738 = $30,738

Wait, you claimed you made 46k in flight pay above. Me thinks your telling tales and might be on the same Math Spectrum as a certain 251knot PIC.

Someone who says they’re labor friendly but also wants to force “Medicare for all”, and tax the **** out of you.

I enjoy this post and find it quite informative. Too bad its about 4% actual posts of salary info and then 96% arguing and *****ing at each other.

Negative ghost rider. I did make exactly 46,692.60 on flight time. And company put exactly 16,738.48 into 401k as part of that flight time. I don't really know why it doesn't equal exactly 33 percent. I'm guessing because they started the flight pay like 10 days before 2019 and so that's why its more than 33 percent. I don't make stuff up. It is what it is.

And every year it's worse. The people that don't like this thread can't just keep that to themselves. They can't skip it. They've got to tell everyone how much they think this thread is dumb.
