they should. They’d all make more money. The cultural norm of keeping compensation a secret is what businesses use to keep downward pressure on wages. How would one know what they can negotiate if they have no idea what a peer is making.

Yet many of us vote for politicians that are anti organized labor and systematically chip away at union rights and the ability to organize.

other professions also don’t have their hourly rate, published on a public website.

Other professionals can kiss butt, be friends w the boss etc. to move up in their world. Ours is different. Just the way it is.

which even more begs the question of why pilots need to talk about it if it’s published.

This isn’t a “freedom of information” issue; it’s a type A flexing issue. No matter how people try to spin it

That’s exactly what management wants. The main reason behind this is because salary is often negotiated after a job offer is given. Having two people with the same job title doing the same work at different salaries would cause a ruckus if they were to cross discuss. Aviation is completely different. Our pay rates are all publicly posted and threads like these help others see the light in terms of work rules and soft pay when considering working for different airlines.

Great. So your wife should get a low-paying flying job and keep her salary secret.
