Lack of smog from EV’s? The vast majority of electricity in the US comes from fossil fueled generation. You haven’t eliminated smog you just moved it to someone else’s backyard.
Don’t get me wrong, I would love it if everyone drove EV’s and the US was 100% nuke power. We could tell the middle east oil dictators and russia to F off.

Power generation, even at a coal plant, is more efficient than using an ICE to propel yourself. Vast majority of energy in the ICE is lost to waste heat. The economy of scale plus the efficiency of the end state user already favor the EV in terms of pollution produced per mile, and will only tip more that way in the future.
You're also not accounting for how much electricity it takes to refine crude into gasoline, for instance. You are right that nuke power plus EVs would be a boon for our air quality and ability to tell the rest of the world to pound sand.
I'm a petrolhead and love a manual transmission as much as the next guy, but the EVs are definitely more efficient and better for our environment.

You made a statement that to charge EVs you have to use coal power. California currently gets 30% of its energy from solar, wind and hydrodams. They plan on having it at 60% by 2030.
Ideally, as more and more homes get solar, you just charge your EV at home. You can generate your own power and not rely on the power grid or fuel lines to fill up your car.

You can get a used EV for $15,000 and get the HOV sticker. Even the Tesla model 3 is only $37,490.

Just read this thread. Enjoyed it. CA native here, moved to Texas last year to wait out the pandemic/furlough on CA EDD. Enjoyed the cheap gas, lighting shows and dine-in restaurants. Stocked up on bullets and stuff. Tried the "Mexican Food" - gross! The tolls really add up, and who designed those weird on/off ramps to the freeway. Merge left? No thanks. And that snow-maggedon was unreal;
nothing like boiling snow to use your toilet- not doing that again. Sheesh. Anyway employed now, moving back to CA soon.

And the "tex-mex" - im not sure what "queso" is but you can leave it off - I'd prefer raising my risk of heart disease in other ways. I asked for enchilada sauce on my burrito at a restaurant the other day- "Abuelos" - sounded legit, anyway, they just starred at me and after a short mexican stand off, the waiter said "we have ranchera sauce."
Yeah.. me and texas aren't gonna work :/
Edit: ok there are SOME overpasses in Texas, but not enough. Instead you have to drive an exit or two down to turn around or turn left

What you are really missing however is how efficient electric vehicles are in converting energy into motion. A 76 KW Tesla battery can produce 300 miles of range. That battery pack has about the same energy as 2.5 gallons of gas. A typical electrical vehicle is 77% efficient with most gas cars around 20%. That difference alone leads to vastly lower pollution and overall energy use. When a gas car the size of a Tesla Model Y SUV can get 135 MPG the gap will be closed. Not going to happen!

If you need to get off the freeway and heaven forbid, turn left or even worse, you went an exit too far and need to turn around... Look out! That mistake will cost you 3 miles of driving. It's called an overpass people! They're great, they let you get off a freeway and "pass" underneath it to cross over. Most have the option of allowing you to get back on the freeway quickly in the opposite direction. As a bonus, they double as places to pitch a tent.

Foodwise, California has a diverse culinary palate, but I can’t think of a cultural blend of California food that is identifiable and unique to its history and culture except for the fast food like In N Out.
Tex-Mex is awesome. It isn’t supposed to be authentic Mexican food. It originated with the Tejanos. Ingredients are different and use Spanish influence. It isn’t Mexican food.
If you have one near you find a Chuy’s. That’s better than Abuelos. But I don’t like “authentic” Mexican food anyway. I like authentic Tex-Mex. And yes, I’ve been all over the interior of Mexico and feel the same way.
What you need to do is have BBQ. If in Dallas or Stephenville, find the Hard-8. If near Llano, go to Cooper’s.
Dont forget to use up your ammo before you try to bring it back to the Left Coast-it are you just going to sneak it in? LOL
