It’s more than that.

- The federal government charges an excise tax of 18.4 cents per gallon.
- California’s excise taxes on gasoline come to 50.5 cents per gallon. That includes 12.7 cents per gallon from the controversial Senate Bill 1that became law to improve infrastructure and develop transportation programs across the state.
- Plus, there’s a state sales tax. It can vary by area but the Stillwater analysis estimated the sales tax averages 10.7 cents per gallon.

Riddle me this, how is it that I pay my share for transportation improvements driving a regular ICE car using the roads, whereas Tesla drivers do not? Pretty sure our car tire rubber wears down over time and cause the same kind of impact to roads. So I subsidize electric car road use?
basically since they can’t tax me on gasoline. 🤨

All EVs pay an extra $100/yr when they register, and up to $175 based on cost of the EV. Vehicle registration for a base model 3 is ~$700/yr now. An ICE vehicle worth about the same amount as a model 3 is about $400.

EV vehicles also contribute to the environment by using power from SG&E or PG&E who help by burning your house down in the summer.

Half of all states in the US have EV registration fees and Texas wants to also a $200 fee on them too. That coincides with Georgia, who has the highest registration fee on EVs.

Wait I’m confused. You wanted to be riddled on why EVs don’t pay their fair share, and when they do pay their share, it’s disappointing?

How green is a Tesla in reality? Mining the minerals needed to produce the damn thing pretty much nullifies it in my mind. And what are the plastics made of? Oil.
