He actually had diabetes for a long time. He was also a cowboy and a US Marine before he got into acting.

Really it's more when you bought your house and how close you are to retirement. You'll get there too eventually. I sure couldn't afford much of a house in CA until after age 40.

But Politics.

They absolutely know they can count on the youth vote, regardless.

They also know they can count on a lot of boomer votes, for various touchy-feely platforms. But try to take the boomer's house away, and you'll have Don back in '24.

I’m going to avoid partisan politics, so I’ll only respond condescendingly to the first part: I wonder if there’s a correlation between someone’s birth timing and the year in which they buy their first home (since your tax rate is semi-portable).

yup. Had to spend all my 30’s out in the desert building equity and savings so I could afford to move back. Now that I’m back ooff wants me back out in the desert for retirement.

not at all. I simply don’t want you paying a third of the taxes your neighbor pays on an identical home.

I guess I am in the minority here. I love Florida and hate California. San Diego is probably my favorite part but even the fish tacos at Miguel's Cocina can't make up for the yearly fires, constant threat of earthquakes, and impossible traffic. In Florida the RE taxes are reasonable and you take 25% right off the top once you homestead. No state income tax. Same warmth, albeit with a bit more humidity. Clearly better beaches (particularly on the gulf side). And warmer water. In Pasadena, for example you can get a fifty year old house with about 3,000 sq. ft. for 1.8 million in a good area. In Tampa for 1.8 million you can buy dockable waterfront and have enough left over for the boat at the dock.

But, but, but, I didn’t think Florida had sun. Isn’t it only California that has sun. That’s what I heard from Californians.

When people say they hate Florida and prefer California, just smile and nod. Don’t try to change their minds, because you might actually succeed.

If they want to live in woke-land and pay stupid prices, let them.

So you get some sort of credit on property tax for living in the state for a while with the homestead? Imagine that concept. Be careful it might accidentally lead to someone paying 25% less than thier neighbors for the same house.
