Everyone pays the same rate. It’s 1.1% of purchase price. Also payroll tax rate is income dependent not age dependent. Your not using the word correctly and now I have to try and figure out what you mean through the context. Let’s just agree to disagree.

...In the wild we observe Oooff now going after her own kind, attacking fcoolaiddrinker relentlessly, because he has a different opinion on property taxes. It is common in the SJW tribes these days to see them attack their own, because when you need to be offended by anything, nobody or nothing is off limits."

Oh no.....she now has her eyes on me...(settles in for the incoming barrage). Literally wants to fight with everyone, anytime, no matter what.

pretty funny. We’ll get there eventually. Back to when it’s ok to disagree.

no, everyone doesn’t pay the same rate. Two people with identically valued homes next to each other can pay rates that are nearly an order of magnitude different. The “1.1% of purchase price” is biased toward those who were smart enough to be born in 1955, not 1985, even if they own an identical piece of property.

payroll tax rates have risen over time and will likely continue to do so. So while the person who bought in 1985 enjoy their lower property tax rates, they also had a lifetime of enjoying lower payroll tax rates.

Why does the presence of a healthy debate over differing opinions bother you so much? Why make this about me as a person?

Couple of thing first. CA tax rates haven’t risen over time much at all. You mentioned they were 5% average. We know they weren’t zero. In 1985 1.1% was still 1.1%. Your now going down the inflation path again. It has absolutely nothing to do with when you were born. Prices go up over time. It’s called inflation. In 1985 mortgage interest rates were 14-15%. That’s why house prices were low relatively speaking to today. Did they enjoy paying 14%?
what are you proposing as a fix??? That’s the key question because if it’s a graduated increase in property tax over time and value there’s so many issues with that it’s a whole other conversation. We’re talking major new state tax law. For starters how do you grandfather workers that paid similar tax rates as today and now high property tax? Also it wouldn’t do anything for the guy buying today because again thier going to pay 1.1%.

You should really be more upset that interest rates are so low. It’s causing inflated home prices and the fed can’t raise rates anytime soon. I’ve always believed it’s better to pay a higher mortgage rate and a lower property price. In part because of ca property tax. You can always refi but the people that bought in the 80’s at 14% had to wait a decade to do it.

Because you argue with everyone. It’s funny to watch how triggered you are over everything.

I’ll sit back and enjoy more of the show....thanks

if an online forum was just people agreeing with each other, it would be a fairly uninteresting place. It would basically be the crew lounge black chair area.
