As someone that lives in Texas, where these expat Cali's seem to like to go, I wholeheartedly agree.

It didn't work there so you left. Fine, I would have left too. But why do you gotta bring it here with yah?

The crime is fueled by poverty and crimes of opportunity when police resources need to be diverted. The drug abuse and mental health issues drive the homelessness. There was a documentary where a couple with a kid were in a homeless camp because they had a drug issue. They got clean, both found jobs, but decided to stay in the homeless camp because hey, free rent is cheaper than a 600sqft studio for $1200/mo.

When you have that many people in a small area, congested, living on top of each with huge wealth gaps, it doesn’t create some utopian dreamscape of something like Salt Lake City or Knoxville.
It seems to be more drug use/abuse and untreated mental health issues that drive crime. It's actually very hard to find just straight up poverty as a person's basic needs of just food/shelter can be met through programs/job pretty easily when you take into account food stamps and assistance programs. It's when you throw in high expenses for drug use and mental health issues that puts most people behind the eight ball. A very permissive environment towards petty crime just begets more activity. Not sure the correct path, but it's probably time to bring back some sort of institutions whereas people can be forced to get clean and/or help with severe mental health issues. Just leaving them on the streets degrades their and the communities quality of life.

California actually has a record budget surplus despite the pandemic.

https://www.kqed.org/news/11862460/a...e-slow-economy

But California’s bank account is overflowing. As of January 2021, the state’s tax collections were $10.5 billion ahead of projections. By the end of the fiscal year on July 1, Gov. Gavin Newsom and the state Legislature could have a $19 billion surplus to spend.

It’s so much money that, for just the second time ever, the state is projected to trigger a state law requiring the government to send refunds to taxpayers.

Is it true the $1.9 Trillion bill is going to add more to California’s coffers?

Facts incoming from what you just sent me....

“but growth has slowed in recent decades.
Over the past 20 years, California has experienced its slowest rates of growth ever recorded, and growth has been especially slow since 2017. According to estimates by the California Department of Finance, California’s population grew by 7.3% (or 2.7 million) from 2010 to the end of 2019; this rate is only slightly higher than the national rate of 6.3%. International migration to California has remained strong, with a net inflow of 1.5 million. But net domestic migration has been negative: about 900,000 more people left California for other states than came to California from other states. Natural increase—the difference between births and deaths—added 2.2 million residents. But birth rates are at record lows and the number of deaths is increasing as the population ages.”

High international migration yet 900,000 more people left California for other states vs people who came to California from other states.

...thanks for proving my point. California slight population growth is because of procreation and immigrants (international migration).

Yes, along with the other 49 states, DC, Puerto Rico, and tribal governments. This administration isn’t playing favorites like the last one.

I don’t understand why conservatives use this as a point of pride. California would be a much better state if 10% of the population left. Less traffic, less crowding, rents not higher than NYC. However, California’s population has grown every year. Yet somehow they use that to say something is wrong. Even a global pandemic wasn’t able to stop California’s population from growing...

And California is slated to lose 1 congressional district, Texas is slated to gain 3. California population is not keeping pace with the rest of the country.
