But really, I can't understand how people think it's okay to come up to a complete stranger and rudely say, "how old are you?!" I always wanted to reply, "24, how old are YOU?"

I spent most of my 20s flying left seat in small cooperate 91 gigs and was often treated to employers that didn't respect my knowledge or experience because of my age, despite the fact I was the only one at the company with a pilot certificate.
I miss BEING young. I don't miss people viewing me as "too young".

At 38 and enough graying hair, I don't get the question anymore.

Boarding an A320 from IAD-LAX, I had set everything up so was standing in the doorway saying hi. One guy gets on the plane, phone glued to ear, and then says “aw man, this is a small plane!”

Back when I used to get this question (been a while...*sigh*) my go to was "Oh no! Do you think so!? The temp agency didn't say anything about an age requirement!" in my best innocent wide-eyed look.
