The most common thing I hear from passengers is..

“I didn’t know a pilot could be so good looking”

Summer of 1998. New Saab 340 Captain based out of DFW. Bad weather everywhere. Scheduled turn to SPS (Wichita Falls, TX). Taxi out, take off after tower says any heading you need, cleared for takeoff. Solid IMC immediately, but the Saab has a good radar. We get about halfway there, and ATC says "are you SURE you want to go there?" Hmm. Take a closer look at the radar and decide, nope. Did a U-turn in an area clear enough of cells to be able to turn tail and head back to DFW. Get back there and do the ILS and land. One of the last to land before the airport basically goes that dark dark blue green hell that DFW can go to. Stuck on the ramp for an hour due to lightning.

Finally park.

As the pax are getting off and thanking us for turning around, one guy has the audacity to glare at us and accuse us of being "chicken".

Uh, yea...

And you should be happy we were.

Had a similar run in after diverting to ORD after going missed in Madison. It was 2am and guy said we should’ve diverted somewhere closer. Everywhere was fogged in and had we gone to say Milwaukee and gotten in there was no one to work the station at that hour. People are clueless. We timed out in ORD and flight cancelled. I hope he had to sleep on the carpet.

I had a passenger ask why we didn't deice the night before our early morning ALB - EWR flight since the plane sat there overnight!

That’s actually not that unusual. Have the deuce crews hit it to knock the frost off right before the flight crews get there.

Well since they dropped the "check" from "Precheck," now it's pre-everything!

Yeah, I’ve come out to a cold, dark, and dripping aircraft on more than one occasion. Kind of a nice surprise on a bad morning.

Deicing the NIGHT before and 20min before the crew shows up are two different things.
