What's insane. Continuous service or not, he was still on the bottom of the list of guys still flying (not furloughed). So where is he now? you guessed it, at the bottom of the list. Same or better status, same or better pay, no windfalls. The fact that he is on the list with guys hired in 2005 sucks. It demonstates that life is not fair. That does not mean that the policy was not followed. If we want doh in mergers, then we have to change the policy.
Your statement of "....life is not fair." seems to admit that there was, in fact, a significant windfall for one side. Based on other posts on this and other forums the AWA folks seem pretty content and the U guys are livid. That indicates that the merger policy was not applied properly.

Well, there's simply no credit whatsoever for longevity or experience within the operation. This is very dangerous precedent for the industry. Moreover, the lack of fences will decimate this guy's attrition related "career expectations" of rapid advancement. I expected pretty much this outcome but with significant C&Rs to protect the East pilots attrition expectations and therefore level the award. That's the biggest slight here IMO.

ALPA merger policy states: A. preserve jobs B. No windfalls C. Maintain same or better pay D. Maintain same or better status E. Preserve career expectations. No mention of "date of hire" anywhere in the policy.
I have said all along that all the furloughed guys should be placed behind the most junior AWA guy. After all, furloughed = furloughed. I am glad that the ALPA policy worked as advertised.

He won't be missing much. I'm not saying this to be snide, but if I were him I'd take advantage of having a sugar mama and switch careers. Seriously that's what I'm planing on doing. With a 9-5 job I'll be home more and can actually have a social life with friends. I'm sure both your husband and I will be better off somewhere else.

That statement about moving on from AWA was only true over 5 years ago, not much attrition in recent times ...
But some little event in 2001 changed the landscape of the industry, don't you think ?
Later, CC
P.S. Just thankful that whole mess is in my rear view mirror !!!

Absolutely!! UAL will bring their 117 widebodies to CAL's 46 widebodies and take all the top seniority slots (just like the AAA pilots got) and UAL's 500 guys left on furlough will get stapled. Lets do it.

I'll be nice and won't point out the mistakes in your post, but it was hard to read.
