How would you rank UA for a pilot job compared to other 121/135/91's?
About 300 guys left to call from furlough. With the low acceptance rate, United expects to hire in September/October time frame.

UAL's problem is simple. Glenn Tilton (CEO), Jake Brace (the CFO), and the other top management have no intention of making any money. They want UAL to do poorly, they want UAL to be a failiing airline. This is ubba-capitalism at its worst.

Glenn, Jake, Top managment, the hedge fund managers, and options traders stand to make hundreds of millions of dollars if UAL is bought out by another carrier. The drive up of the stock price, the options that they hold on shares etc, etc, etc. Companies that are underperforming are the companies that other companies raid. If all the other carriers are able to make profits, even the ones that didn't go thru bankruptcy, then why can't UAL?

Haven't you wondered why Tilton is running around everywhere saying UAL needs to merge with another airline? Sure it does, to make him filthy rich! Tiltons take if there's a merger will be about $55,000,000+ that is, based on current stock price.

I believe he already exercized all of his stock options.

Also, everyone needs to bear in mind that UA paid off 1 Billion in debt and I maintaning a positive cash flow. If they post a loss and have negative cash flow, then you need to worry.

Their planes aren't any older than AA's and are younger than NWs.

Well, now the latest is the old rumored merger with US Airways. This would make our merger (AWA/AAA) look like a beach party.

It appears SWA thinks United is at minimum vulnerable. Their last three cities (Dulles, Denver, and SFO) are all United strong holds. Last time SWA went into markets that were major Legacy airports (Philly and Pitt) the airline (US Airways) almost liquidated. I'm not saying SWA caused US Air to go bankrupt twice, just that they saw an opportunity there before most. Maybe they see trouble for United as well??

Are you suggesting that UAL is hoarding cash to weather the upcoming storm(s) with SWA and Virgin America's entrance into SFO and continued pressure from other low cost carriers at their remaining hubs?
Or is it possible UAL is anticipating industry consolidation and wants to be "the master" in a merger?

I am merely pointing out something I think is interesting and related to opinions about UAL's future. SWA's last three additions are not typical SWA cities (they do not like fortress hubs)...yet, all three of these latest additions are dominated by United. SWA must see some opportunity. Could it be that the people who up to now have done an excellent job of judging the industry, foresee problems at UAL and are positioning themselves to capitalize??

Oh, and I am not suggesting anything about why United does what it does...

Perhaps. The last time SWA came into DEN, they pulled out. Maybe it will work out better this time.

SWA was at SFO during the 90's and pulled out, I believe, due to airport delays and fees.
As for SWA's current trend on returning to these Major hubs, RUMOR says they ordered too many aircraft and ran out of places to put them.
