Default Delta New Hires NYC or ATL?

Any Delta new hires/ FOs like to comment on life right now?
Did you choose/get assigned to the 737/MD-88?
Did you choose/get assigned to ATL/NYC?
How's life at either place on either jet?
Thanks for any replies...!

Can't talk from personal experience, but one of my best friends just started at Delta about four weeks ago (new hire). He got ATL MD-88. Said only one 737 JFK spot in his class and the rest was MD-80-88-90 in ATL and JFK. He seems pretty happy to be there.

I am not a new-hire but was recently recalled in the fall and am a -800 F.O. in NYC. The flying is great on the -800 out of NYC with mostly transcons and trips to the caribbean. If you don't commute to NYC you can plan on about 15 days off on reserve as there are a few days each month where you won't get used. Reserve life is easy as the only minimum callouts occurred during snowstorms (I expect to get them during IROPS). Most callouts are for trips for the following day. NYC is junior so there are new-hires that will be getting 767ER. International reserve is a 24 hour callout.

All in all, there is a lot of positive energy about the future here. Ironically, I feel there is more positive energy now than there was when I was first hired six years ago. We have a solid management team now who is positioning Delta very well for the future.

There is a tremendous emphasis on international growth here. They have gone from 40+ international cities in 2004 to 130+ cities in 2007. The 757's they are getting will serve the shorter European routes while the 777LR's will most likely serve Asian destinations.

Have less than 6000 hours apparently. I was invited to an interview in 2001 that was cancelled due to 9/11, but now several years later with a few widebody type ratings and intl. time, a few LORs, and still no call!

F10A you are preferential interviewing. You should be able to get a call.

BTW there are 80 88 B openings in ATL on the advancement. It is a good time to get on.

I think to be considered for a preferential interview you would have had to have interviewed back in 2001. My interview was cancelled before I even went, so I don't believe I qualify and if I did how would I even make someone aware of this?

If your e-mail address was the same as it was in 01 you would have gotten an e-mail. There were about 80 applicants that they could not get in contact with for one reason or another. I would call the ATL CP's and ask. All they can say is no.

Not a Delta guy, nor do I claim to be...but it seems the US Air offer really pulled Delta folks together. Jumping a few times on them since I've been impressed with the service and the "keep Delta MY Delta..." lanyards and spirit. Maybe a wolf at the door was just he spark folks needed to get serious about rebuilding their airline. (Then again--maybe that's been going on all along and I just haven't seen it...)

The bloodletting on concourse C was long overdue. Fixing the TERRIBLE service on the ASA ramp will go along way towards reducing that common source of complaints. I know a lot of the problems were contractors, but if the ticket says "Delta" and the service is poor, you know you gets the blame....

Good luck guys (and gals).
