I doubt I got hired because of my MBA as well. I got one because I wanted a "plan b" if something ever happens to me. My point was that things can be done if one chooses to do it.
No NYC for me. West Coast based

It's awful to think of 67 passing but I don't think it'll be as big of an issue as many of us fear it will be.
Hmmm. That's the same thing guys said before 65 got passed. 'I'll only fly to 62,' blah, blah, blah.

If the age changes to 67, 67 will be the norm for retirement. As far as medicaling out, the FAA physical is a joke. You can get a waiver for just about anything.

In my 39 years I've seen many pilots riding high horses take some pretty bad falls...

This! I come from a lower-middle class family. I had to rely on my brain and athletic abilities to get a full-ride to college and I STILL couldn't afford aviation. Just because my family couldn't afford flight training or college doesn't mean I'm any less capable of being a pilot.

I would argue that the things that can disqualify you for a FAA Medical is a joke.

Non-waiverable examples?

Type II diabetes IS waiverable so the FAA's put some thought into it.

Unless UAL changes their mind, which happens almost EVERYDAY, the latest is right under 450 for the year.

~250 to date, with 180 projected to go to class in Nov and Dec.

Never mind that what classifies as "Tier 1" can be recategorozed. You think they'll actually admit they're now hiring from a "lesser" pool?

A 2 at 10 is a 10 at 2.....

But your point is valid. And LCA leaves a regional, there's an LCA that had to replace them. As well as mil guys just waiting for their separation to happen, what have you.

I don't think it's as major as people make it out to be either. With proper diet and adequate insulin, people live unaffected by Type 1 every day. Yes, it requires more monitoring than, say, high blood pressure, but professional athletes play rigorous sports for 3-5 hours a day and manage to perform without problems. I'd say it would be no problem to sit in a cockpit for 1-8 hours with any effects.

Sure you can probably get a jump on seniority with a degree, not gonna argue with that.

There was a time when most regionals required a degree, now they don't. There was a time when most LCC's required a degree, now they mostly don't. Legacies will be next.
Hey man I agree with You! The only problem with your logic is yes you will probably eventually get hired, but after all the other guys with degrees get hired. Right now it's a mass hiring time, even a month of seniority can mean a big difference in compensation, QOL, and equipment. Say you get hired 3 years from now when they might start hiring non degree people, that'll put you roughly 3000 spots lower and the degree would have paid for itself and much more. Also now you are putting yourself at more of a risk of furlough being more junior. Seems like a no brainer to me but what do I know. I guess in the long run nothing is certain.
