Get that degree, you might be "redeculed" less.

You know, every cell phone has auto-correct. Most browsers have embedded spell check. There is absolutely no excuse to butcher a word like "ridiculed" while corrected another person's spelling. "You must be stoopid because you're grammar is bad."

18 pages now, with dudes making fun of each other's grammar on a thread asking about the need for a degree.

I was hired by TWA in 1989 with a 2 year degree. At the time I was a BAE-146 F/O. I had about 700 hours turbine pic. I had been at Westair Airlines for about 2 and a half years. I ended up leaving TWA because I didn't like it there. I came back out West and went to work for Skywest. I completed my 4 year degree online at a less than stellar yet accredited Hawthorne University. I than left Skywest for Southwest in 1998.

The need for a degree was answered on page 1. Guys just don't want to believe it's really required despite being told it for decades so it goes on for pages, and pages, and pages until it gets flogged to death....until it arises again a couple of months later.
We get a kid in H.S. asking the question. But a professional pilot? Don't they fly aircraft that have a Master warning light tied to the 'oh, come on' light? Or a 'where have you been for your entire career' light?
Can you get hired without a degree at a major airline? Yes. Will you? Probably less than 1% odds?
And if you're a 1% why are you bothering to ask the question, just call the major of your choice and tell them when you'd like to start training.

I would like to address the guy they said it is wise to fly first then get the degree. I got my degree first then went to the regionals. I had a few friends that I trained with go straight to the regionals. They upgraded within a few short years and obviously had much more 121 time then I did after a 5 or so year mark after we got our certificates.
Flash forward roughly 10 years later and I was the first of a maybe 8 guys from my training days to get hired by a legacy. Those that went to the regionals with no degree are either still there, or at a ULCC or an ACMI carrier.
On top of that I know even more guys WITH degrees that can't get a call from DL, UA, AA, FedEx, etc. So a degree seems to be an obvious requirement but it's not a silver bullet to a legacy job either.

Stoopid me.
It's not about correcting his gama it's about overreacting to a simple question with unnecessary derogatory comments.
Carry on. I'm out.

Nice. I'm glad my intentional misspelling (embedded in a quote no less) didn't go over everyone's cranium case. ![Big Grin](https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I did find it humorous that the thread's SJW decided to insult my education while complaining about insults on APC. With his own spelling error to boot. The irony is palpable.
