We aren't robots, it's okay to have fun sometime. A friendly See-ya hurts no one unless maybe you're in New York approach; talking obnoxiously on guard? Different story, it's an emergency/contingency frequency.

The best or maybe the worst part of this is the potential for a missed read back by an ATC puke like meself. To say it is annoying is an understatement.

I feel worst for you guys as I'm sure you're actually required to always monitor guard.

This weekend there was a somewhat long event in the Indiana area. It is normally broadcast over loud speakers in the centers and it can interfere with things.

It's amazing how I can leave atl and fly all up and down the eastern US and hear the idiocy all the time.... as soon as you leave that area going deep south, to the far caribbean, to europe... it dies down.

Look at what carriers have concentrated east coast ops that don't leave that area, and you've got your potential culprits! I've long suspected ASA(former) and PSA...

FYI, Frontier doesn't monitor guard unless in class II nav. Otherwise Frontier is monitoring airinc freqs
Self-righteous? Childish? Lets see, the poster that I was referring to called out the RJ drivers. I was bringing some other points to consider. And yes there are alot of people that have a chip on their shoulder about RJ drivers. So tell me, what is childish or self-righteous about that?

Cool about frontier. Can you certify that No frontier pilots ever get bored and start a guard war?

So im guessing my little post hurt somebodys bottom. Im sowy.

Oh man, this thread is epic. Thanks for the laughs, guys.
Personally, while I never ever participate in the shenanigans on Guard, I DO get a good chuckle out of them once in a while.

E6B,
Copy all, and thanks for clarifying the pet peeves comment. Yep... sport-b1tching seems pretty popular around here.
I agree that getting the folks to stop the "Guaaarrrrd" won't happen. I just wish they wouldn't do it at a time when they step on a call from Center to me!

This is one thing that I don't miss flying overseas. It is amazing how well your RT will become when you are working in an environment that others do not speak English as a first language. We monitor guard from the time we start our pushback until we block in. That is just how it is. If there is an ELT going off, of course we turn it down. (Not off). Once the ELT fades, we turn it back to a low level. Just so we can hear if someone is calling us.

Pet peeves are something different. I am always amazed at how bad the mainline US carriers RT are when they are outside of the US. It is like it is their first day on the radio over here. Do you guys even prepare for the arrival or approach prior to switching to approach control? It would seem not with all of the "say agains" that I hear. I mean really, get the ATIS, look at the approach plates, and you can figure out what arrival you are going to get at 99% of the airports you operate at.
