Default Thought about getting back in but.......

Well recently I thought about getting back into flying proffesionally again. This guy offered me a full time job as a CFI, and he really was interested in all that I have to offer (1000+ hrs. dual given, 15 years management experience, sales experience, etc.) but seems that he was not as interested in paying me for what all that stuff would be worth to him and his business. Wanted me to be there for free between lessons to promote the school, and wanted me to give my time away to students. Sorry pal, at some point in your carreer you want to get piad for those decades of sweat and toil ( I am 42 and quite tired of hearing why I should give things away to everyone ). CFI's are very important to aviation because they are foundational to all types of flying. They are worth millions, but they get paid peanuts. Well, I'll get back in when it is good for them AND me, that is all I ever asked!

Don't worry... there will be plenty to fill the job you don't take, and the reason they not only "offer" working for free, but expect it !!!

Got that right. I remember the flight school days. Those owners not only expected it, they demanded it! ...and there were plenty of people lining up. A holdout had (and still does) no leverage whatsoever.
The 135 and 121/Regionals aren't much different. The common denominator: dreamy eyed people grateful for the opportunity to fly for a living.

Maybe I should go ahead and get that CFI/II/MEI
That would be pretty darn good for what is considered an entry level job!

Well guess what? Many American consumers and business owners have gotten used to having it their way for the last 60+ years. There is a very rude awakening coming down the road for them, and for many, it has already happened. Coming is the time when Americans HAVE to pay for valuable things again.

I have to respectfully disagree. China,India and the America's are still providing us with countless amounts of cheap labor, and Africa hasn't really even been exploited yet. I think we've yet to see how far things will be degraded.

Default apologies for the thread drift

I remember buying tennis shoes that would last 6 months sometimes more and now they last half as long .
It's quantity over quality ,but if you think of how much is spent over a given amount of time for the replacement of various items the amount becomes staggering.

There is an unbreakable rule built in to the universe....everything has a price, and it is always paid, but unfortunately not always by the person trying to break the rule. Yes, there might always be some starry eyed kid or someone from another country willing to fly for less but the quality will always suffer in the end. For the last 25 years I have seen STUDENTS pay for the low pay. The bus. owner tries to pass the buck to the CFI, then the CFI then passes it to the student via poor instruction, not showing up for lessons, not caring about what he is doing, etc. Of course there are some excellent CFI's that do an outstanding job for what they are paid, but if they do that too long, they hurt THEMSELVES or their FAMILIES financially. No man can break the rule of cost, you can only break yourself, someone else, or something over the rule. It is immovable.

The last Colgan crash wasn't too big on "quality". I went to an interview with Republic, and they actually told us not to score too hire on their knowledge written test, because "smart folks didn't work well at regional airlines". I think it was 28 questions correct within the stated time limit was the top.

I did 33, so I guess I'm an idiot.
