Default Kalitta classic/400

Hey!

I was wondering how does Kalitta decide who goes to the classic and who does to the 400? What are the pro/cons vs each other and how is life different in the two variants in regards to Kalitta and the flights each does?

Can one upgrade from the classic into the 400 or do you stay in your own variant?

I am fascinated with the classic. Always had a dream to fly it.

Thanks much!

that's nice and all to want to fly the classic or any other classic like the 727 or DC10, but if you ever get furloughed, what are you going to do with that type rating? No one will hire you in the contract world. You need a fall back, so get into the 400 if you can. Plenty of contract jobs for F/Os with minimum 0f 500 hours required on 400 paying from $8500/mo to 11K/mo and commutable with some having US bases like Korean Air. Having a valid type and getting to jet PIC are the most important things to ensure viability in this industry.

I love flying the classic, but urge is the voice of reason. Merry Christmas. by the by, in my "illustrious" career i have flown the DC3,the Convair 340,the 727, the Citation XLS, the DC9,and the 747-200F,the only glass time I have is in the XLS, the only real furlough I have endured was in the Citation also. YMMV, Buon Natale !!! Augurie!!!

To answer your question, Rebecca walked around with a clipboard and literally asked our interview group which 747 we were interested in. Also during the interview portion we were asked if the current aircraft we were flying was glass or steam. I think they weigh their decision on that.

18 months from completion of IOE. And it is an equipment lock. At the moment guys are holding classic capt in less than a year if so desired.

is it the same on the 400? capt in less than a year?

What are the mins required (for hiring/fo from 121 regional)? I'm sorry if this has been beaten to the ground but I can't find on the website like they used to have a pilots requirements section.

Are you guys still hiring?

One more question. Do you guys have any interline discounts on any airline at all? (pleasure flying with the family)

YES.

NO. (well...you can JS, but no ZED or anything like that. But I am at over 110k miles on DL in about 9 months of traveling, so I suppose you can get a free ticket here and there) In fact sitting in F on a DL transcon right now due to my FF status.

What the seniority in terms of years since hired that's required to hold capt on the 400?

Also is there a diff between the white painted (with small black label saying Kalitta) 747s and the original red/gold livery 747s?

I dont know....I have one too many glasses of wine to try and go figure it out. Guessing about 4 years to be a 400 capt at the moment.

No....Although the white ones are only classics. The 400 is either original or we have 2 in DHL colors.
