Kalitta Air
For the Kalitta folks out there...
What are scheduling and QOL like at Kalitta? Positive/negative aspects?
How long to upgrade?
Any training bonds for new-hires? for new captains?
Just trying to get some info, thanks for the help.

17 days on a month either straight or broken up into 2 segments. Upgrade around a year or so, but you better be ready since half failed the last class. No training bond you do need to pay your own hotel during ground school.
they do airline you to work assignments. 17 days is a long time if you have young ones at home.

Rama, thanks for the reply.
A few more questions, if you don't mind.
Can the 17 days on duty be back to back for consecutive months.... meaning, 34 days on duty without days off at home?
Also, when you say 17 days of work, I assume the rest of the month 13 or 14 days, is days off. Are those days off at home, or can the company assign you days off on the road?
How long have you been there?

Orion, Neosporin,
Thanks for the replies.
A few more things I'd like to understand...
Home basing means anywhere in the US with an airline-serviced airport? For example Durango, Colorado? What about Alaska and Hawaii?
How does one's address affect days off? Meaning, if I live in Denver, would I airline to work quicker than if I lived in a small town in Colorado... and would that give me more days off at home? Does one always airline out on day 1, and then airline back on day 17? Or is it out on day 0, and back on day 18?
Can one move and just be 'based' at his new address by letting the company know of the move? Can a pilot live at an address for half a year and then another address for the other half of the year?
Is APC's profile on Kalitta correct in stating that there are 9 744's arriving in 2009?
Lots of questions, but it's a big decision and this is the best source of information I currently have. Thanks again, I appreciate your help.

You can live anywhere you want. The company will buy you a ticket to and from work in CONUS. We have normal scheduled service almost daily out of Honolulu and Anchorage. The company will fly you in and out of your "resident airport" provided it is serviced by at least two part 121 airlines.
Your duty period starts at 0001z on your first day and you must be in position by 0500z unless prior arrangements are made with crew scheduling. You will be returned to your "resident airport" by 2359z on your last day (baring no mechanical or other delays....they do happen from time-to-time).
Two 744 on the property. Two more in 09 and more to follow.
