Kalitta Pilots CBA update
#301
Asking for a 15% DC is asking to be compensated like a legacy pilot. Where else does anyone come up with that number except to look at what the legacies are getting and saying, "Why don't we get that?" You might be able to get it, but your'e going to have to give up something else. Start with the much-beloved home basing.
Thinking this has anything to do with how I sleep is a really odd non-sequitur.

No, you're wrong.
It is apples to oranges because Atlas doesn't pay for fuel in most cases and they don't have to make payments on the aircraft they fly in many cases too. The legacy carriers have to pay for all of that which reduces their profits in comparison to revenue.
Secondly, maybe DHL, Amazon, etc just need to pay more. Did you ever think of that? If Kalitta and Atlas pilots are getting close to what legacy pilots are getting maybe they'll have to raise their rates and DHL and Amazon won't have much choice except to pay up.
Thirdly, Southwest makes 22 mil in revenue and has 10k pilots. That's 2.2 mil per pilot. That's a lot less than the numbers you gave for Delta. Why aren't Southwest pilots getting paid 60% of what Delta pilots are? With SWA work rules they generally get paid just as much as Delta and the other legacy carriers.
Stop selling us short.

is this the same JB where a *First Year* *Airbus 320* Captain makes more than a Kalitta *Fourth Year* *B747* Captain while flying cushy daylight hours and short little three day trips....before you even factor in his/her 16% kicker.
It’s a harder lifestyle bouncing around the globe and working 24 hours straight and being gone 17-34 days at a time. If you want to continue growing and hiring when the generational pilot shortage resumes, and you don’t only want the DUIs and training failures and convicted felons and dregs from the bottom of the pilot barrel, you’ve got to pay better than the LCCs to give qualified candidates a reason to choose to come here. They may not be our competition for business, but they are our competition for pilots.

Jetblue, Frontier, Spirit...we're asking to have the same retirement as our LCC counterparts. Record setting company profits amidst a Pandemic in which the pilots were exposed the worst. We aren't asking for the Delta +1, we're asking for an industry standard retirement, QoL improvements, and improved work rules. Instead, we got a couple percentage point raise and that's about it.
We’re only asking what’s fair. I believe we work harder, longer and a lot more day/nights than any legacy guy. And, it would be nice to be paid that much too, but K4 doesn’t make that much based up volume, we know. But, we make enough to provide each pilot with enough help plan a retirement.
Honestly, Connie should be impressed we’re asking for this, that means we want to devote our career and life to his airline and promote our own success.

I believe like many there is more to this, maybe company needs to have a contracted and unified work force to secure finance / contract(s)? Who knows, but it is a very valid question for them to push for this.
The union put out several questionnaires asking what the group would like and the response was primarily pension and QOL improvements, none of which have happened. I had serious doubts about this whole process when the union and the company where signing off sections as TA'd at a great pace which showed basically nothing was really being done (which is now obvious). Then all of a sudden we get negotiations are off everyone is at a total impasse, the NG resign, then days later we have a TA.

Is that not the answer we want? Would you rather hear "there's more on the table but it's cold in YIP and we decided to go home?" What would be your more ideal answer?
No it's not. Atlas has no problem securing new contracts and buying new airplanes the whole time while treating their pilot group like utter garbage.
If the TA is rejected, can we expect your candidacy for the next negotiating committee?

I guess the latest union email tries to address some of these concerns.
As for my candidacy, I thought about it but honestly have to much on my plate right now to devote the time required.
