Isn’t your company making money hand over fist?
What better negotiating environment could there be other than after a prolonged period of cargo rates being many multiplies of normal and no signs of that changing in the near future?
If the only reason management will agree to better work rules is the threat of people leaving, how is it that FedEx/UPS and the pax majors are able to obtain industry leading contracts?

Look, we know the guys on the NC did a fine job four years ago. And all the effort over the past year has been great and well respected too. But this deal is embarrassing to have been brought to the group. We would have been better off agreeing to the higher offer last year at this point and dealing with the current work rules over the loss of some now. And the “protections” and “gains” that are being promoted are mostly already stuff that is happening or compromises that long-term open the doors for worse.
Sorry guys, most of us are not impressed and you can’t blame us for that.

We are making a lot of money, however there are a lot of pilots on the street right now. So the leverage is lost for now.

My bigger concern is that this seems to be good insurance for the unknown world economy the next couple of years. If Biden keeps hugging those trees, oil is gonna go through the roof.

Connie garners respect from his employees because he is a straight shooter who, if you have issues at home will put you on the next flight home. What makes negotiating so difficult is that Connie was burned in the late 90’s investing money and long term contracts into aircraft based on guarantee revenue from long term freight contracts. Great until the freight stopped. IMO this is why he is so staunch on seeing the future return in front of him.

The sooner we get to 99% renewable energy, the better off we will all be, as a whole. The increase in renewable power for transportation will probably lead to a decrease in jet fuel prices (assuming we keep the current massive subsidies in place). The unknown is how fast the Big Oil companies will stop trying to find/pump more oil, as it becomes economically unfeasible, due to a variety of factors. The other unknown is how fast the new travel tech gets to the airlines...

The oil companies will do just fine as we will be the only country in the world to have such a major part of our transportation system electrified. The rest of the world will go on using oil for decades until they catch up. Also someone has to fuel the mining equipment that needs to run 24/7 to pull the metals out of the ground to make all the batteries and micro chips.
