American used to. The AA training and conference center, now managed by Wyndham. You absolutely can (and they did) have different rules for different workgroups. It just doesn't fit in with the "we're all alike" narrative being played out here.

I don't know enough about the contract with Pyramid Group and the insurance involved to know exactly why they chose the no visitors in the room policy.
I would like for spouses to be allowed to stay, but I believe that's an unenforceable policy. How does the front desk differentiate a spouse from a girlfriend or a prostitute? It's much simpler, from a management perspective, to just prohibit all visitors to the rooms. I understand the policy, even if I don't like it.
BTW people were originally allowed to have personal alcohol and coolers in the beginning, until a few groups ruined that. The few ruin things for the masses. It has always been that way. Again, exceptions to that are unenforceable. It's all or nothing, so they choose total prohibition of alcohol.

It is possible, but very difficult to enforce. And you are no different from anyone else, other than that immense ego you haul around with you.
Being higher up on a chain of command doesn't make you different or better. The rules should be evenly applied. Why should a pilot get their wife, but not a tech ops guy?

If we are no different shouldn't we all be paid the same then?

GMAFB Southerner. My aviation background includes stints on the line, ramp, agent (res and airport), and flight attendant before I started working professionally as a pilot. I give the utmost respect to each person I work with as their due as a fellow human being, and have more perspective than most about the challenges they deal with.
But darn right when I was throwing bags or serving coffee I knew the pilots had "earned" different privileges and preogatives by dint of what they had invested in their career, and I'm not the least bit ashamed to still believe that today.

We are paid what the market can command for our position, not because we are better than anyone. Being a pilot doesn't make you better than a gate agent. But boy some of you think it does.

Give up the socialist we-are-all-alike garbage. It's astounding your utter unwillingness to acknowledge a potential maturity difference between a 19-year-old GO recruit and someone who has met the qualifications to be hired as a major airline pilot. No other work group (possibly excepting Tech Ops) spends as much time in training at a stretch as we do, and you'll note I said "certificated employees". That includes Tech Ops, who imho have a similar investment into this career and thus the expected maturity.

We can acknowledge a difference in maturity and still accept that we are no better than that person. We don't deserve special treatment. Sorry.

I just had a new hire (less than 6 months) FA complain to me during the bathroom break that it is BS that pilots don't have to do airport standby.
I calmly told her that we used to do it all the time (not true) but after we got a Union they told the company we just don't feel like doing that anymore and would rather sit at home or in the crashpad and play flight simulator to keep our skills up.
I'm about 90 percent sure she believed me.
