Actually at a lot of airlines they don't even require the FA's to clean, let alone the pilots.... they actually hire cleaners.

Even here at Mesa pilots are not expected to clean...ever. I am shocked reading this thread. Starting to think I may just bypass my upcoming interview.

Pilots cleaning the cabin is utterly degrading. Can you imagine telling an UAL captain to don blue gloves and cleaning the cabin? More power to you guys fighting this. The pilots going along with this should really reflect on how you are hurting the pilot profession.

A Mesa guy talking about JetBlue guys hurting the pilot profession. Literally laughed out loud at that one.

Let me clear things up for you. Cleaning is never required as a pilot at JetBlue. NEVER required. It is only a requirement as a condition of flying as a non-revenue employee. It applies to all employee groups. While I think it sucks, it's how it's done for now. So if you don't want to clean then don't non-rev on JetBlue. Or don't come to your interview lol

Agree
What would be nice is if the poster KNEW what he was talking about first. Thank you for clearing that up for him.

Foregoing an interview to anywhere, including other regionals, to leave Mesa, seems a bit silly in this environment doesn't it? We have a lot of Mesa pilots here, and other regional/LCC guys still coming. How many of JetBlue pilots would go to Mesa, and how many Mesa guys would come to jetblue? Few Mesa captains make what a 2 year JB FO makes, and no Mesa captain makes what a 3 year JB FO makes. So from a purely economic standpoint, that's a silly idea. Lastly, when I was at Mesa, I had captains go cross seat belts (when that was a thing) and help FAs close window shades and clean to try to get the turn done more quickly, as well as throwing bags when rampers were hiding from the Phoenix heat or otherwise not doing their job at our gate. So it's no different there and it isn't even a suggestion to do that stuff. And, as was said, cleaning is not required of pilots unless nonrevving.

While that is technically correct, management has fostered a "culture" here where flight attendants are told to put pressure on pilots to clean between flights. They have fostered animosity between the two work groups with this wedge issue, leading to poor CRM to the point where FAs will exact revenge by delaying bathroom breaks for pilots in flight for instance.

It isn't required on paper, but the hell if they aren't trying to make it required in practice.

I'd love to hear more about this. My physiological needs come before the wants of the customer. If I need a bathroom break, I call and ask for a bathroom break. Period. End of story. I expect said bathroom break within a few minutes (so they can setup).

I'm curious with what the story was with the FA's trying to withhold bathroom breaks?

Guys... It's in the FOM. While on duty cleaning of aircraft is not your responsibility. It's really a non-issue. If FA's are withholding the ability for you to do what you need to do that is an issue and should be dealt with accordingly. I'd blow right past pro-stans and go full phone call to the CPO followed by an FCIR and an SAR.

I've only ever had one issue with an FA about a bathroom probably 5-6 years back and she was just special. Nothing to do with cleaning or not. The capt I was with didn't take it very well at all. It was fun to watch.

This whole cleaning thing is simple, just be a normal person and do your job.

I've been here for almost 4 years on both fleets and have never experienced what you're talking about. I've heard stories here and there about rogue flight attendants thinking pilots are supposed to clean and then said flight attendant being educated on whose job is whose. Hardly a culture of animosity between the groups. I never clean and get along great with every FA I work with. Even had a great overnight the other night where the 5 of us all went out to dinner and had a great time.
