FlyingA320, you must learn to ignore those people that refuse to speak with intelligence. (like that velocipede guy) When you respond to his ignorance you only fuel his fire. The opposie of love is not hate. It is indifference.

I don't get..............

Trying to start an effective in house UNION will be significantly more expensive than if you folks certified ALPA.
If you Bring ALPA on, you will immediately have immense resources at you disposal that you will not have with an in house.

With ALPA you will have from day 1:
1 A legal staff second to none in the aviation field.
2. An aeromedical staff second to none.
3. A professional Communications and PR staff
4. An Aviation Safety/Accident Investigation dept second to none
5. Experts in Retirement/Insurance, Scheduling, Safety, Railway Labor act 2nd to none
6. And the "Only" Professional Pilot Lobby in Wash DC

Having been there and done that with an independent, I have witnessed the true cost.
Trying to hire or outsource the above work is very expensive and will take enormous amounts of capital $$ upfront. It took us many years to figure that out and wasted a lot of time and money, before we figured out that ALPA was really the answer. ALPA has it's faults but so does any organization.

You folks will elect your own Pilots to be Union Leaders. The key is to elect Good people. You will no doubt elect the same Pilots whether ALPA is on property or some other entity. You folks will elect them.
You folks will tell them what you want. Good folks will do a good job.........and Bads folks will do a bad job. Give your elected leaders the best tools to get you guys a contract. ALPA is your best shot, im my opinion

The thing is that EVERY pilot I have flown with since the talk of representation has come up seems to have a deep hatred for ALPA. I'm not in a hurry. I'd rather see us take the time, even if it's several years, to get a union that the majority is comfortable with than vote in a union that so many have such disdain for.

The problem is that most of them are probably furloughees who blame ALPA for the furlough instead of USAir and UAL management. That is misplaced. All ALPA can do is attempt to ameliorate the fallout from bad management. Of course, the rest are probably TWA guys who don't understand that the merger/fragmentation policy doesn't apply when an ALPA carrier is acquired by a carrier with another Union. All ALPA could do for those guys is try to soften the blow of the crappy list merger they got stuck with.

Redeye is right about the resources ALPA would bring you. However, YOU are right in the idea that its better to go inhouse than to vote in an organization that your membership has heartburn with.

Unions are only as strong as the membership. And if you're all not pulling in the same direction, you're pulling yourselves and your bargaining strength apart.

Default Green face makes some sense for a change

Green man you surprised me by actually making some sense for a change. I still disagree with your position about kicking non union guys off of your/my jumpseat. What a great way to talk to them on a professional level and explain why it would be beneficial for them to have a union. There are so many reasons that AlPA can help a carrier especially with the outstanding safety work they do. BUT NO....you want to call those guys SCABS, bash them for getting jobs to feeding momma and the babies.

Your point about pulling in too many directions is well said. But you seem to be one of the members pulling in the wrong direction. I crack up at your rhetoric, but quite frankly think you are just flat wrong about those pilots.

I blame ALPA and the APA for my furlough.
