Not refuting what you said, since I know you always have good, trustworthy information....just seems a little crazy with everything going on right now. You have pilots who haven’t flown since March, either on VIL or sitting at home on LCR. My October block is less than 30 hours with this new LOA. I’ll wait for that first RSA email before I start believing we need to increase our pilot workforce by 20%.

Email from the CEO about CARES running out and furlough speak, then an email saying 5000 pilots.
I'm going to the sims for the first time in my career to bang out landings. I thought if I were to ever do that, I'd be a golf playing long haul reserve FO, instead it's because there's so little flying that I can't even get a flight assigned to me.
At this point I'm still in the "I'm getting furloughed in May" club, and I've been doing what I can to prepare for that. The idea that we're going to be hiring in Q1 at this point is absurd to me.

Same. I don't want to be pessimistic, just realistic.

I remember being in Leading edge in March... you know the days when the market was +/- 2500 points and everyone is canceling flights and bookings. I remember “we aren’t going to stop hiring” “Europe still on time” “this will likely be a two week thing” I believed every word of it. Fast forward maybe 3 days later. Canceled upgrades and transitions. Few days later. Stopped hiring. Now press the fast forward button 4x and now we are 6 months from March and this is still going on? 1,000s are being furloughed. Regionals are outta business.
Moral of my story. Im not saying that we won’t hire. I personally don’t believe it for one second will be q1 of 2021. To think that a vaccine is going to solve this seems pretty insane. Basically I think it’s a bold statement to say they we might hire in q1 of 2021 let alone be enough flying for 4000 pilots. I appreciate the optimism but the CEO cannot be asking for us to sign letters for more loot while the CP is saying that all is good in the hood.

I second this. To even speculate that we might hire in q1 of 2021? Is insanity if you ask me.

I personally don’t see hiring happening in the 1Q of 2021 since nothing has happened as it should this year. But if this thing passes DOT and we don’t get major spikes of COVID again then I can see pilot hiring at some point next year.
Lastly, the furlough email is obviously a move to instill just enough fear to get everyone to fill out a call to action. It’s what I would do, you want as much pressure on Congress as possible to get more free money, why wouldn’t you. I’m not naive enough to think we won’t furlough next year, it’s definitely a possibility. But I just think that email was more of a political message than it was a furlough letter to employees.

I can see a pathway to actually needing more pilots next year but everything would have to go perfectly right, which hasn’t happened over the last 6 months. I’ve listened to several of the leadership Q&A’s and reading the tea leaves, they’ve consistently been insinuating this AA codeshare is going to be huge. The words said were “growth on steroids”. I can easily see throwing a ton of routes up with all the new slots we get in NYC to grab market share if this thing passes the DOT. Also remember there is inefficiencies while transitioning to a new fleet, there is training float, and you have to carry reserves for both the 190 and 220. It’s not a 1 for 1 transition for pilots like it is for the planes, have to carry extra pilots.
