Neither did I.... Until a JFK Supervisor pulled me and another pilot off a flight to accommodate more customers.
If you were DHing to work a flight, that supervisor probably isn't a supervisor anymore.

oh wait, this jetblue we're talking about, probably got a lift award.

“What’s that? EMA/EPS you say? Sure, don’t mind if I do”

I had just the opposite happen. A flight cancelled we were on and we were pos spaced on a full flight a few gates over. Agent wasn't happy and called someone. Next thing they are pulling off paying pax and putting several of us on the plane.

Yea that’s fun when that happens.

plane pushes back while still on hold with CS. Watch plane taxi away. About 20min later plane taxis back. Super happy passengers replaced with pilots and FAs.

super happy everyone.

They will hold a flight, making it late, for your DH instead of giving a hotel and trying the next day. Great when you really just want to get home, bad when you'd of rather just overnighted and eaten up another RSV day in peace.

My best DH stories are from my sub-par regional.

I’m sitting Airport Reserve at an airport with about a dozen terminals.
Crew Scheduling calls. “How soon can you get to gate K79?”
Me - ”I’m in the crew room, I dunno, maybe 15 minutes?”
”OK, they are boarding PIT right now. I need you to DH there and then operate a flight to somewhere... I will list you on the flight by the time you get there”
Me - ”OK”

So I go straight to the gate, work my way up to the agent, and they say “I’m not putting you on this flight. It’s full.”
Me - “OK”
I call crew scheduling, wait on hold while they complete boarding, and then explain the situation.
They say ”You have to talk your way onto that flight or the next flight will cancel!”
Me - ”They don’t even have my reservation.”
CS - “I can’t list you because we’re too close to departure!”
Me - “We’ll, the door is closed and I’m watching the plane push back right now.”
CS - “Dont leave the gate area. I’m gonna make some phone calls to get that plane back.”
I proceeded to go back to the crew room to sit out the rest of my 10 hour shift.

Anybody want to wager on if my regional crew scheduler got that mainline plane to come back to the gate?

I had that happen so many times in Detroit. It was great

I've missed a DH on a plane I brought in myself once. Delayed by 6 hours for a "simple" TPA turn out of JFK. Got an ACARS halfway to TPA that they found another crew to fly the return leg and we would DH to stay legal. Land in TPA, crew hops in and wants to go home in a hurry since their 4 day just turned into a 3 day. Gate agent says were not listed so we call scheduling and they say they'll take care of it. Gate keeps checking while they board. Still nothing. Gate and flying CA say "oh well" and close up without us.

It only gets better. Call scheduling, tell them we missed the DH. They say we will overnight then DH on a 2pm flight home. I ask if there is an earlier flight and they say there is a 7am but its going to cancel any minute now since the pilots they reassigned to operate my original flight are no longer in TPA to work that leg. I ask if we can do it just to get home early as possible and they put me on hold because I'm legal but have to check with their manager before they can change me from DH to operating. Then manager comes on the line and thanks me profusely for agreeing to operate a flight because they hadn't thought to use us for the 7am.

Good times!

I've seen that too...

had one transcon delayed for a few hours and now there is no way we can legally do it. Watch them change it from T5 to T4 and Back to T5 again. Pax really happy. Then it cancels and we get assigned to a ferry flight in crap weather. We get to the gate PD and angry pax at the transcon gate. We board the ferry flight and the agent is standing in the cockpit telling us we have to move fast he needs the gate....SMH

capt asks the agent to step and tells the plane will leave when we get fuel and are ready and then shuts the cockpit door...
