Right, I’ve seen nothing but negativity from this forum, but heard largely great things from pilots out on the line. I’m weighing options for the future and can’t figure out where I stand with JetBlue. I’d like to ask all of you a question to help me with this.

If you had the option to do most of your life over, knowing the things you know now, would you return to JetBlue? Why or why not?

You just said this forum is overly negative from what you’ve read, so what do you expect to gain from asking such a question?

Rumor of 3,100 pilots to be hired over the next 5 years. *IF* true, obviously a good time to be hired.

But, that is rumour (JB CEO is British) only, and there is no public plan for the airline that would justify that much hiring.

To answer your question, none of us really know until our retirement day if we made the right decision as this industry changes soo fast.

Even if JB keeps all 60 E190s, JB has only a fixed number of planes on order and can’t get any/many more delivery slots in the next 5 years. 60+85=145 new planes with 60 planned 190 returns/sales/retirements. Let’s assume those 60 stay for the sake of mathing this out. 145*16 pilots per plane=2,320. Plus another couple hundred for CBA staffing. Call it 2500 needed on the list. Unless somehow they crap out a bunch of additional planes, and attrition picks up, would there be any reason to hire 3100? I would say 1400 added to the list in 5 years is more realistic with what is known today and doable, so maybe hiring 2,000 over 5 years to account for attrition.

I think the company can and should do so much better then what it is. But I would have still come here looking back to when I was hired. Would I rather have gone to the big 4? Yes, but I think it is something to strive for greatness and not waste the potential we have.

Indeed, but I absolutely do NOT see them keeping 60 E190s, and doubt they keep any frankly.

One possible theory? The 60 A220s ordered for Moxy are a place-holding ruse...

It's been *1* of my working theories.

I agree. They aren't keeping a single one. It doesn't make financial sense to.

Why keep them when the 220 does it for 30% less.

I don’t think they will keep them either, I just used that as a possibility to show the only math possible to get anywhere close to supporting this asinine 3100 rumor.

Only thing I do think will happen is they keep some a little longer than a direct 1:1 replacement as spares to help with the transition. Then possibly some of the owned ones a little longer if they have nowhere to sell them and can use them on a handful of routes that are still making money with it. If they are making money with it and holding onto slots with it, no reason to park it until more A220s get on property. JG said at one point not too long ago she’s butting heads with the CFO on keeping some of them. She wants to keep some of them, he obviously wants them gone ASAP.
