It’s definitely cheaper and we cheat ourselves by taking the free money. It’s not free. Imagine having a holiday off because they had to increase staffing due to a lack of cheap labor. But no. We’ll cry when the system bid is released. Then pick up the phone to help out.

The month of May, as a whole, had far fewer RSAs than the few months prior. As far as helping goes, look dude, the system is what it is. Sure, if no one ever does extra they will have to hire more. That goes for every airline out there. Delta has green slips, etc.

The company calculates how they want to run the airline in terms of staffing. You and I calculate how how best to do our jobs, and earn what we want to earn. Some want QOL more than money. Bully for them. Some want money more than QOL. Bully for them too. Stop worrying about things out of your control, and just do you. If you want to do an RSA or VDA, do it. If you don't, don't. Why do you make this such a big deal? You're never going to convince people to live their lives differently than they want to.

Post of the week right here. Sadly, those who SHOULD heed your advice never will.

But you're right, May was much slower for RSA/VDA. On both airframes. But I suspect this summer will be no different, and those who choose to make good money will easily do so.

You may be right but I’m curious have you experienced a summer here yet? If not what makes you so confident? I understand you want to go against the echo chamber of negativity but what experience do you have here at Jetblue with “running hot”?

It’s been a problem every summer and we’ve continued to be promised fixes. Yet those of us who have seen it year after year have seen the same. So where exactly do you get this confidence in our operation?

And for the record I’m all for guys picking up RSA/VDA but it’s just a band aid.

My point is more to the fact there’s a staffing problem that needs to be fixed. Because the company gets the help they need and plugs the holes in the dam it effects everyone’s quality of life. You can’t move any days or trips around and if you do it’s pure luck. There are people exploiting flica and bidding too. If the staffing numbers were better then it helps all of us.

Well, I live in New England and the sun is out. But you know the challenges of the northeast and the weather. (Best JoJo impression while doing a Steve Jobs impersonation)

I said this summer would be no differerent than previous ones. And yes, I've been here for the past two already. Don't see how you interpreted that as confidence in our ops; if anything, it's confidence in our pilot group to overcome all the obstacles thrown our way.

I see now what you were trying to say. I read it as you thought May was better staffing wise and you suspect the summer to be no different than May.

Chief pilot email just out begging for help from BOS E190 Captains. Heavy rains and fog to blame. As per the email dictates. System Bid. Show me the upgrades.
