Heard some crazy stories/rumors about suicides, is it really true? One example a newhire falling behind in training commits suicide? Heard another rumor that it about 5-6 suicides in the past 12 months?

That's crazy and sad if any of it is true.

It is sad, but it’s true, you’re told about it in recurrent !
I want to believe this is not BJ situation only !....

It’s not 5-6 in the last 12months. However, it’s abnormally high and hasn’t been addressed properly.

I believe the number is 7. But this includes attempts as well and it's over the lifespan of the airline.

Not as dramatic, but still unacceptable. In no way am I attempting to diminish the seriousness of this issue.

The new hire is true. There is a pending lawsuit that’s all I can say on that. And 7 attempts is correct in the last 12 months

In the past couple weeks I’ve missed 2 important family events because of massive delays. Obviously commuting is my choice. I’m just saying these things add up to some and it compounds. As lame is sounds, I’ve taken the M in IMSAFE seriously at this place

I think the former USAir was averaging 2 per month after their pensions were thrown out in court

Are you saying our lifestyle and working warrants a possible uptick in suicides? Are you comparing us to USAIR pilots losing their pensions?

Not at all regarding suicides. But the stats show our lifestyle and work lead to more divorces which one could safely assume helps trigger some sucides.
And the USAir thing, I just thought was crazy when I heard it back in the day. Not trying to debate the issue. Just raise awareness that the mental health aspect not just in our profession but entirely in the US should probably be to up to be addressed more with the FAA and break the stigmatization of mental health. The Clayton or German Wings incidents, and obviously the recent uptick in mass shootings, show that the issues shouldn’t be so taboo and talked about more freely. Look we jump through hoops to maintain our medical but that’s all physical tests. I just wish it was more out in the open

I think he's saying that when you start compiling overworked and under paid along with large hits to fiscal stability it can cause a huge stress on people and they may not handle it in the best way.

You can only wind the rubber band so tight before something happens.
