Just to add another data point, to their credit JB was Johnny on the spot with paying out my PTO balance. I had just passed my 2nd anniversary, so 100 hours at 3rd year pay gave me a nice little buffer to get ahead of my bills and make sure there was a little contingency cash on hand for my wife while I’m in training.

Well enjoy. We're going to be close or better in pay hopefully soon. Still, i would never consider sw. I just got back from kite surfing while on overnight in the carribean after a one leg day. Once the pay kicks, SW for me is like going back to the 4-5 leg regional days around flyover land. But good luck and all the best!

Once we get our CBA, we'll be right there with SW and the legacies. Flying the 73, 3-4 legs a day and 15 year upgrade?
No thanks.

1. I’m west coast, so upgrade time for LGB is just as bad as SWA, and SWA hired 900 last year, 750 planned for this year. Upgrade times are decreasing at SWA.
2. When is JB going to get a contract? Do you expect retro? How much would that wait have cost me? SWA opens negotiations in 2020, I hope JB has a contract by then, and I hope it’s amazing, SWAPA will negotiate accordingly.
3. I’d rather fly 4 legs a day than the red eyes I was flying 2-3 trips per month.
To each their own, if you’re sticking it out, best of luck. Every decision each of us makes is a roll of the dice. Let’s talk again in 25 years, we’ll see who made the right gamble

I had 3 problems with that line of thinking.

2. The $ Million question. My guess is sooner than later. I suspect the company would like to close just before the next round of airline negotiations open back up. Our negotiators aren't dumb and see that as well. It would make zero sense to agree to a contract, only to have it outdated for 80% of its life.
3. As you say, to each their own. The long-standing statement is true: "You never know if you made the right decision until the day you retire, look back and review your career."
Big picture is, you made a decision you thought was right for you and your family. I hope it works out for you.

1. I get it. QOL for me is more important too. It's why I'm a 14+ year FO. Do you still commute or do you now live in base? A commute is a commute. And you never know what JB's WC expansion plan ends looking like.

I live in San Diego, so I’ll be commuting until I can either hold LAX (opening at the end of the year), or I can convince my wife to move to another SWA domicile. But, Vegas and Oak are easy commutes for now.

For anybody considering making the jump to SWA, I just got my first paycheck in training and from 2 nd year pay at JB, my pay cut was a whopping...wait for it....$12.00 from my March 8 JB Check.
Full disclosure, I was doing 10% contribution to CSPP, so that makes up for half of the roughly 20% hourly cut. Add to that the 8% I no longer have to contribute to my 401k to max out the JB match, and the decrease in union dues from 1.9% to .25% (first year only, goes to 1% thereafter) and I’m breaking even (minus $12). Now add 14% direct contribution to my B fund, and a 0 premium Regular plan health insurance, a 3% raise coming Sept 1, all open time trips paid at 2nd year pay for the first year, and the fact that picking up open time is not taboo when the union isn’t in a labor dispute, and I’m WAY ahead of where I was going to be on 3rd year pay.
I’m certainly not boasting, just providing the info to any junior guys who might be hesitant to go from JB to SWA, as was I. It’s been great so far.
For those who are going to stick it out with JB, best of luck and more power to you!

1. Clean the aircraft
2. Share the crew room with other work groups
3. Be a part of the worst operation in the industry (dead last for on-time performance)
4. Be at mercy of leadership that has no clear direction
5. Work for a company that always is trying to "reinvent the wheel" with mostly poor results
6. Be a part the "fake" culture that is nothing more than a facade
7. Stay at the subpar airport hotel on a 24 hour caribbean layover
8. Be trained by Sim instructors with zero line expierence
The list can go on for a while but you get the idea.
