I took his comment as tongue in cheek but I’ve argued your point here in the past. As a three year FO here you’re in the top 10%. With the income of my wife (non degree, admin) we’re in the top 5%. No commentary, just facts. So yeah, I’d like more money but I’m far from poverty. And if you live in a high cost of living locale that’s a lifestyle choice.

How is living local a lifestyle choice? I should be able to live in base and be compensated accordingly. Lets not forget an FO living in NYC is less than middle class. I shoudnt have to take 2 days of my life everytime and commute 5 plus hours just to come to work and be the 5 percent in Bum F who knows small town in middle America.
Dr’s, Nurses, and other career fields are compensated much more in New York vs Memphis lets just say

I don’t care what choices the rest of this country makes with their profession. I care about mine and my co workers. You wanna get out of poverty? Make the hard choices and do what has to be done.
We do a job and should be compensated for it in line with our peers at the market rate.
Know what you’re worth. This isn’t a charity and no I’m not here to” help-out” I’m here to get paid, And make as much as i can. Just like the rest of the world. You wanna be a philanthropist joint the peace corps.
Merry christmas

No shame on you. And you missed the point entirely.

I don’t disagree with any of this. But we make far from poverty wages, and anyone that says otherwise is either deranged or severely uninformed.
But yes, I got the e-book reference.
Merry Christmas to you too! Hopefully you are able to be with family, enjoying the holiday.

If you understood the ebook ref... then why so triggered?
Nope, I spent the first 4 hours his morning “limo”ing in the back of my uber Toyota corola to FLL and grab a DH... but once I got here and walked about 3ish miles to find nothing open I paid a homeless dude $5 to tell me where an open liquor mart might be and promised to bring him back a present if him gave me good intell.
His intel was good and shared a drink with a new friend and heard an interesting story.
We’re all aware of “life”. This is airlinepilorforums.... consider your audience before you get triggered with all the poor me slaps in the face.
1000+ negotiating days with the company. That’s a slap in the face.

When you look at how much they have taken away from our profession we all have had to work until we are in our hundreds to get it all back. Oh wait there’s that mandatory retirement thing and uhhh death.

Turns out a year 1 FO with 2 kids is right at the federal poverty line. If he has more kids he qualifies for WIC. This is Federal mind you and doesnt account for zip code. In NYC the estimates are you need 3 times the federal numbers to survive, or about $150k. So, If I live in NYC (you know, our largest base) and I have 2 kids, I actually am below the poverty line.
Shame on YOU for defending these abysmal wages.
Here are the links since you need to educate yourself.
