I hope losing 1/3 would be the start of starting a real base out there. One that isn't as restricted as Long Beach is

One time a dozen years back, we had a Navy DC-9 mission assigned to land at LGB at 1am on a Monday and then depart LGB at 330am on Tuesday morning. When I called the schedulers and said "but they have quiet hours", they said that the quiet hours don't apply to military as was written into the agreement since the field was transferred to civilian use after WWII.

So in we landed and blasted off out of LGB as an uncontrolled field at 330am, surely waking everyone up as we flew across LA at 3000' on our way to Vandenberg AFB. Surely must have been a few "noise complaints" on that one.

the gate agents said they were told that. i read an email from our ceo giving clarification on this. i won't go into all the detail, as i don't think he wanted it all out in public, but we are losing some slots (5 daily slots) but it is not because of failure to pay fines. as someone else said, our fine money has made a nice library. the slots were gained because of an improvement in the noise abatement and the noise abatement improvement went away, so the slots are going away.

there was also some stuff about changing destinations and re-jiggering sfo flying, etc.

but that rumor, which i thought wasn't a rumor because the gate agents were acting like they had official word, caught me by surprise and made me angry. this real news isn't as bad, and things sound a lot more positive.

Are you referring to the Slots SWA already uses? Those were originally our slots but the city is letting them uses them because we weren’t.

I don’t understand what you mean about reshuffling flying. What’s was said? I live in Socal and been at JB for 7 yrs. all I’ve heard were the same old rumors.

no, slots that we have used in 2017 that we will not have in 2018.

i'd rather not say. like i said, it was a personal email from the ceo and maybe he doesn't want what he said out in the public eye.

So I’m confused.
The 5 slots are just going away or is SWA or someone else getting them. Seems like LGB is doing a great job if they want us gone.

If only that would be the case.

In this document you can see how the noise budgeting works for LGB and new slots were recently created.

http://lgb.org/civicax/filebank/blob...px?BlobID=2991

My guess is that since the most recent "Noise Year" ended on Sept 30 you can see the results from the past year where LGB added the slots:

http://www.lgb.org/civicax/filebank/...px?BlobID=3258

Page 5 you can see that the Noise Budget was exceeded with 100.4% on one of their monitoring locations, so I believe this triggers the removal of the previously granted slots. It wouldn't be fair to just remove 1 slot (who gets to keep who gets removed) so they will remove all slots that were granted recently (5 for JB, 4 for SWA).

This is all just my guess based on some limited snooping on the LGB airport page

i know, only the person who wrote him asking him the question about the slots received the personal reply. he does write back if you email him questions, amazingly.
