My thoughts exactly. We can ramp up fairly easily in the west (even the LA basin). It's time to move on and redeploy our resources somewhere else.
I'd just want Cabo overnights

What about ONT? FIS there? Plenty of gates, right?

We just don't have the airplanes. Even if the rumors of the JFK 190 base going away are true, they are still needed in the North East doing short haul in and out of BOS/JFK.
Not having enough airplanes is jetblue's biggest problem right now all around (hiring and retaining pilots in a close second). So many under served markets with one or two flights a day at odd times... not to mention markets in the middle of the country where we could clean up that we don't fly at all.

Relying and hoping on LGB to come through was a dumb idea from the start. Pushing for more market share out of LAX would've been a great idea before the industry came back up. I hope there's a solid plan B hidden somewhere....

Similar story in SoCal. LAX is gate constrained (even with expansion plans), SNA is slot restricted and slim chances of getting more than a few there, LGB is well... LGB, which leaves ONT as the only other option (again, not necessarily bad option).
SJC and ONT as west coast growth hubs wouldn't be terrible, but it isn't ideal either. Fact is that we do best when we have lots of interline international traffic feeding our flights, and there isn't much at those two spots. We DO need to grow out west, just a question of how?

Let's keep in mind that no slots were going to be instantly gained by opening LGB to international flights. While allowing the FIS to be built would have signaled a willingness to allow an expansion of LGB slots, I'm guessing it won't have much of a short term impact on West Coast growth.
Like Flyby said, a longer term solution is needed. Could LGB still be that solution? The city owns the airport. If I remember correctly, the noise ordinance is exempted by the FAA. What if the FAA could be convinced to have a change of heart about the slot restrictions?
Going with the city council didn't work, but I'm guessing there are probably some other levers the company has to pull to help LGB grow.

Don't even get my hopes up.
"Oh look! American's moving. Let's get those gates!"
***? Frontier!??! Where did they come from?!?!
"Oh look! We're moving to the new South terminal"
Aaaaaand, it's delayed already two years ahead of time.
