It would've been nice to get a big announcement, but yeah the 450 hire number is correct. We will train that many, and we project to lose 100-150. Attrition has been lower than projected for the past 3 years, this year included.

That we have to train 450 to get 300 growth is a problem in my opinion, but they didn't invite me to that meeting.

So you know more than the VP of Flight Ops? He said yesterday to Wall Street and is on audio recording saying we plan to hire 300 pilots in 2017.

There are 150 vacancies that need to be filled by 6/1. I think it's safe to presume there will be just as many vacancies to fill by 12/1. Throw in the typical attrition and you're around 400-450 total hired in 2017.
Regardless of what the number will be a year from now, the fact is none of us pilots has any control over it. That number will also probably change several times before the end of the year as it does every year.

I know what the training department is projecting for the year to put through new hire classes. You'd have to ask him if he was low-balling the plan, or if he was talking about net increase in pilots. I suspect the latter.
Either way, there's no reason to be a jerk.

Overall the investor day sounded positive....which while not as interesting as plans to announce 15 A330's or a new CLT base it still indicative of the health of the company. And a healthy company is better positioned to pay us all via a solid contract.
I'm surprised nobody has jumped on the Europe/S America take away from some of the recently written articles.
