Interesting article on the subject….
TL;DR we’re in the “sweet spot” except it isn’t that sweet. Need to change and be more like the legacies or the ULCCs and with our existing geography it seems easier to be like the legacies.

Or, you can just drop your schedule, fly two trips off the x/y list and call it a month with normal credit for half the work. Or, fly a normal amount but picking up off the x/y list and double your pay. You can pretty easily out-earn pilots from UA/DL/B6 if you are flexible.

Much of those opportunities are readily available only because of our work rules.

Definitely NOT a JBU instructor, then!

I got a friend who credited 185 as an adjunct in July—3 VDAs or something like that, blocked 16 hours. Not sure of any other details.

Is an adjunct those instructors that instruct and fly the line once or so a month?

Also, how does your VDA work?

Yeah some months they instruct in the sim and some they fly the line. They start with a baseline of 90 hours and I think 14 days off. Paid hotel in MCO, and per diem.

VDA is seniority based…you just sign up for it and if they call and you answer you have to take the trip, but you don’t have to answer if you don’t want. But, they can go to the next guy if you don’t answer. It’s 200%.

It’s because they don’t really have one……or at least one they want Wall Street …not to mention First officers under the age of 45 years to hear.

Thanks for the info!

As far as seniority for premium goes, I’m assuming DOH regardless of how much premium someone has flown, correct?

Premium open time at 150% is first come first served. VDA (Voluntary day assignment) is 200% and pilots are called to assign in seniority order.*

(*If VDA assignment is for FLL pilots for example…a pilot need not be based in FLL for to be in the VDA list for FLL on any specific day, however the pilot if based elsewhere would be below all FLL based pilots in seniority order)

And yes there are no limits other than 117. Generally speaking VDA is dominated by less than 10% of the top people.
