JetBlue Latest and Greatest
If the arbitrator decides in favor of Jetblue, this happens five minutes later:
Ed Bastian: “We have a deal for you pilots. Everyone want a one-time 2% raise?”
DALPA: “You have our attention. What’s the downside?”
Ed: “I need you to give up some scope. Skywest can start flying 737s in Delta colors.”
DALPA: “No way. That’s a huge concession. Scope is never for sale.”
Ed: “Did I mention the one-time 2% raise?”
DALPA: “Well, since you put it that way, we’ll put it up for a ratification vote.”

Part 2:
DALPA: “Hey guys, we just made this sweet deal with Ed and we think you’ll be really happy. 2% raises for everyone! But it’s just one time. And Skywest gets to fly 737s.”
Delta Pilots: “No way. Scope is never for sale. Especially for a crummy 2%.”
DALPA: “Well we have it in writing that we are guaranteed to keep 75% of our narrow body flying. That’s industry-leading Scope right there!”
Pilots: “But we already have industry-leading Scope. Hard no.”
DALPA: “ But Ed says Skywest won’t actually be flying 25% of our narrow body ASMs. It’s not in his plan.”
Pilots: “If he doesn’t plan on doing it, then why does he want us to give up 25% in writing?”
DALPA: “Hmm, wish we asked him that.”
Pilots: “This deal is an insult! We want a recall!”
Ed: “By the way, I’m doing it anyway. Skywest already has FAA approval for their 737 program and the planes are already on the way to Salt Lake.”
Pilots: “That’s a huge violation of our CBA and we’re taking you to arbitration!
Ed: “I thought you’d say that, so I’ve already got a hearing scheduled with that arbitrator from the Jetblue grievance.”
Pilots: “That guy? Well, crap. Just give us our 2 percent.”

Since we sent our last proposal, nothing from the company. Back in arbitration tomorrow. I’m assuming the company will drag this out as long as the arbitrator let’s them. I hope we at least come away with a hard date to have this LOA completed.
