wrong
From the newhires I've talked to it sounds like a waste of time. The guys teaching the class have no clue what Reserve is and anything regarding junior schedules. It is a shame since there are some serious QOL benefits to undertstanding the Flica/reserve/bidding process.
You are wrong the scheduling commitee takes great pride in that program. DG and his team are awesome and have worked very hard to create and establish that program. They have also answered or gotten back to me anytime I have called them too! Many that come from PBS may not need it but those that don't should go to it. Many I know did not go (their own reasons) and now wish they had and now trying to get one. It's their QOL. JetBlue pilots are more than able to help and answer questions as well, I certainly do.

sorry
Coming from corporate flying I found the class useful for basics (like knowing what PBS is and how Flica kind of works) but I agree on the above statement.. we were taught how to build lines etc. for an hour and then 3 minutes were spent on reserve rules. I spent a lot of time in the FSM on my own and after 5 months of screwing myself, finally have somewhat of an idea whats going on.

Update to what I posted a few days back about being unable to swap days to less than 3 reserve days in a row...
In the schedule adjustment windows for October it would not let me take a group of reserve days to less than 3. But I just swapped to less than 3 days in October.
Weird.

During the 1st and 2nd 48hr Windows all requests are processed in seniority order at the end of the window. So you don't know what the reserve grid will look like by the time they get down to your requests. It's more or a 'hail Mary' type of window where you put out all these requests just hoping something works.

The bottom line is the training department has a captive audience with the IOE class and could spend 1/2 day to go over FLICA and PBS and different techniques to improve QOL......
A Day In The Life is random, and can conflict with OE and line operations to the point that it becomes irrelevant by the time the pilot can finally attend.
Another wasted opportunity to do the right thing by the company to help the new guys get a running start on their career here....

What was the reason for denial? Probably insufficient reserve coverage.

I have seen the denial for insufficient coverage as well in the past
