When the open time for the next day is dealt out, the first priority is new hires needing their 100 hrs. They will be the first to get it no matter if you try to aggressively pick it up and if your #1 seniority in the company, they will get it first. If their are none, and there is always a few, it will be dealt out by seniority respecting if your legal for it (they won't release you early on the prior day to make you legal) and you have the days on to cover it. If it goes into your days off, you won't get it unless you are the last resort. They make it very difficult to make anything above guarantee here other than the occasional RSA days which usually get grabbed by senior line holders that are off. I'm approaching a year on reserve and have never been over guarantee.

You can RTF days and may get a call, you can try and pick up RSA when available if you're motivated. Bottom line with aggressive pick up is the company has to be out of options before you get the trip. Read the FSM for exact details.

Red eye flying? pull the lower sleep handle, ear plugs and a stiff drink.
You mean before or after you get on the plane?

IROPs will send you over guarantee a lot. They like to push reserves here to the limit on duty days sometimes, and it's especially true if you've got a tail end deadhead. If you've got a live flight at the end, and you're looking at timing out on an IROP, they'll likely wind up "extendind your pairing" and you go into the next day. Extended pairing, according to the FSM, results in premium + junior man pay. That's how I wound up breaking guarantee in Jan and Feb as well as last month on reserve. Maybe they shouldn't send the MCO guy in and out of JFK in a snowstorm.

Default Deadheading swap

Can I change a dh from a hub, to a dh from a different B6 city? (It's the start of a trip).

You can either "self" yourself, or (ymmv) you can call and ask to "self" yourself. But they won't PS you from another city unless it's in their best interest which takes a lot. They are not supposed to deny "self" DH WIthout good reason.

Per the letter of the law, you should call cs or submit the self DH form.

Anyone know if calls for interviews are still going out from the last application window? Or is it "good luck on the next window" for those of us who applied during the March window and have not gotten a call?

Thanks.

As CCH said you can tell them you "self" DH, and they need a specific reason to deny it. The problem with them giving you a different DH start location is that, according to the FSM, they have to return you where you started, and that can only be in your base.

They shouldn't deny any self DH requests. From JBU MEC email 3/25/15:

Contact Crew Services to request a self-deadhead. If the request is denied by Crew Services, it is usually because they are following the procedures from the ISM Section M.2 [Flight Attendnt Manual] that says they are unable to approve a self-deadhead due to the Level 2 or higher IROP. FSM Section F.6 says no request will be unreasonably withheld. If your self-deadhead request is denied, reference FSM Section F.6 and query the scheduler for the reasonable reason that they are denying you your self-deadhead request.

Self-deadhead requests can be approved up to departure time as per FOM 1.30 so the crewmember can volunteer to utilize a jumpseat or take a later flight, provided that action does not violate any crew rest or release from duty requirements.

Remember that when a self-deadhead request is granted, Crew Services is under no obligation to honor a crewmember’s request to put him/her back on the original deadhead segment. It is now the crewmember’s responsibility to get into position for any subsequent duty assignments.
