If you don't make it past phase I, Emerald will refund your dinero.
Phase II is primarily your background check. E.C. has no control over what you did in your past life ie; failed checkrides, traffic tickets, etc... I suppose that's why they only have a guarantee for phase I.
I think that * 'fine print' on the bottom of their website was written incorrectly, should read, phase I. If you're concerned, I'd call and ask for clarification.

I completely agree that Emerald Coast (or other interview prep sources) is worth every penny. They can help you tell your TMAAT stories by giving tips on what is important and what isn't important. They can also help if you have something unfavorable in your background and how to address it. I have an FAA incident from 1999 and was fully prepared how to talk about it once I ran the scenario by Emerald Coast. Now, is it possible to interview well without any prep? Of course it is, but I believe that spending the $400 is worth it to make yourself as prepared as possible. Sure it's not a small chunk of change but it's nothing compared to what you'll make over the long haul at a major airline. And many folks only get one chance at an interview, if at all. Just my two cents.

I was on the fence about ECC as well, and this is the thought process that finally got me to call them. I was RELATIVELY sure I'd do okay in the interview without it. I had a lot of friends here already, and I kinda knew how the interview would go. BUT if I didn't do well, I'd always be thinking to myself "What if I had spent that $400 and gotten the prep? Would it have made a difference?" I eventually decided it was worth the $400, and I've never regretted spending it.

Come to think of it..as a newly minted, geeked out PPL I probably spent more than $400 in the sportys catalog on knee boards and chart highlighters.
