The real agony is when you pull into gate 30 and your commute is at gate 29. No worries, you have 15 minutes to walk 20 yards. But no. You came in from the Dominican Republic. So you have to clear customs and then for some unbeknownst to me reason get dumped outside of security and have to run to the other end of the terminal to get to KCM. Why are crew members not allowed to clear customs and then return to the gate area? Bye Bye commute aircraft.

Huh? Are you talking about the 2 hour call out for reserve? That's why crash pads exist. We have guys that commute coast to coast and other countries. I've heard of guys commuting from Europe.

I was talking about the commute home. I guess I should have stated,"you flew the plane in from the DR." So it wouldn't matter if your commute was 3 minutes away: not being able to clear customs and end up back inside security is absurd.

Not a chance in hell if it's JFK. As one famous Texan said,"...I'll go to Texas." (And y'all may go elsewhere). I believe any state within 2 hrs of JFK would likely disarm me at the border.
