I've been through the entire app and don't see this:

"•Three reference letters from Pilots who can personally attest to the candidate’s flying skills (must bring originals to interview)"

I see the section where I can upload letters of rec, resumes etc, but not this. What am I missing?

Maybe I need the number to that truck driving school...

If I remember correctly they don't tell you that Until you're invited to interview.

Need better rules for reserves. At a previous ALPA carrier we could tap out at 15 hours duty. Case in point here - yesterday after starting a reserve availability period at 9am on my last day of reserve (DFW commuter), I got called at 1pm for a 3pm show on a JFK-PBI round. That trip put me at 13:56 duty (and as an aside prevented a commute home).

With snow coming into JFK, I argued that with any delays I was going to hit 16 and that I would not extend beyond my obligation and they'd have to RON me in PBI. They didn't buy it and were willing to take the chance.

Of course with deice and delays I didn't hit 16 but was fairly close. Incidentally, the CA (who also came on reserve at 9am) called in fatigued when we got to PBI. There just happened to be a captain commuting home on that flight that they magically - I'm not sure what the term is here so I'm going to say emergency drafted - to take the flight back. I was tired but felt capable (barely). I guess I was also concerned about the impact of a fatigue call as I basically sat in the crashpad the entire 3 days of reserve except for this last day event. Also, am less than 2 months out of IOE.

Am I out of line when I argued 16 hours is too much duty? Should I have fatigued it? Thoughts? I was pretty tapped when we got to JFK.

No, you handled it perfectly. This is the crap cs pulls without real reserve work rules and why it goes so junior. With just a few small improvements many of us who live in base would bid reserve and let more junior commuters hold lines, but until then....

Aeronut,
I missed this as well, but I went back to the Position Description that first comes up for the First Officer position prior to hitting 'Apply Now' and there it was under the Minimum Experience and Qualifications section: "Three reference letters from Pilots who can personally attest to the candidate's flying skills (must bring originals to interview)". From what others are saying, you may still get the call without them pre-loaded in the system, but that is a gut check...

I also think you handled it well, given how you described the situation. Definitely right in telling them right off the bat that you wouldn't go over 16 hours. Sucks that you got screwed out of going home on your last day, but that's irrelevant (as you kind of indicated). Despite that we'd all like to think calling in fatigued is a black or white thing, in reality it's a tough call given our perceived (or real) feelings of having to justify it to ourselves or the company.
I'd also like to see improved reserve rules for us. I'm new again to the 121 world after close to a decade out of it, so I'm not too familiar, so what are some of the great reserve rules at other carriers that we should shoot for here?

I know DL, the max short calls you can get in a month is 6. That would be nice.
Southwest, days on reserve is 15 or 16, I can't remember (but it's all SC). Curious to hear myself. I know 2 guys at DL have told me their reserve rules are better, but the only example they could give me at that moment was the 6 SCs - we didn't get to chat for long.

Definitely, reserve rules at JB suxk. They will be improved in the CBA. I won't vote for one that doesn't change them.
