Hey I love my plastic frame!! Lol. Had it 5 years and zero issues. Much lighter and $100 cheaper. Guess you had a bad experience with one?

+2 , plastic sucks! Get the manly metal bag. You can do curls with it on your overnights in the DR.

+3. The 22 inch metal Luggage Works Stealth. . . has a J-hook and they sell a couple of other smaller bags that work nicely with it. . .highly recommend. The plastic is lighter however I found with the first one that I had (plastic) that some of the screws holding the handle in place would back out over time and not stay in. The metal frame solves this. It's worth the extra cash and weight.

My plastic has been perfect for five years. I actually love the fact that its much lighter and it has a J-hook as well. I've never had to tighten the screws either, not that a Phillips is that difficult to use.

Never had a plastic one, but flew with many who did and many who had broken plastic parts.... many.

Any issues getting those 22 inch luggage works bags into the overheads wheels first for commuting?

I don't see the J-hook as being that big of a deal. It was nice when I was carrying a flight kit, but I ditched the thing when I got here. I've got one of the clip-on "duffel" style bags to carry all the stuff that won't fit in the bag (which I haven't had to use yet). The laptop bag just slides right on the handle. The J-hook kept getting in my way.
