A couple of bucks more in pay rate doesn't compensate all that.

Have to agree. Either seat now 4th year is more than any RJ capt was making that I'm aware of. Seniority and ability to get the desired schedule is another story... but that's life in the airline.

I don't have any official numbers but the rumor is last current class was all Airbus about about 12-15. JFK needs a lot of 320 FO's so I would expect more mostly airbus classes until more bid off the 190.

As with all carriers you have to apply and see who calls.

That is a difficult question to answer. The airlines hiring department uses a targeted hiring method meaning it selects candidates from different buckets. Corp, mil, commuter etc. Flight times also vary but, again, the airline uses a very targeted number. Currently the lower time and less PIC you have the better candidate you are. The airline is aware that more qualified pilots are using this as a stepping stone.

There really is no way to stem this tide other than offering a TA that is on par with our peers (the Big 4). Sure, hiring BOS locals and Gateway 8 may help their cause, but not enough to keep up with the exodus.

The joke will be on JB HR soon enough. The legacies are into their second tier candidate pools, and low/zero PIC is no longer a barrier to entry to a well-paying airline job. The more time that goes by, the looser their hiring standards will be, and the previously "uncompetitive" JB pilots who are sick of being treated poorly and compensated 30-40% less than their peers will be prime candidates at the legacies.

We continue to hear arguments for why the airline will suffer from a hiring standpoint but pilots continue to apply and nothing close to the cancellation of trips at spirit is happening at Jetblue. Perhaps if the pilot group was more cohesive things would change?
