Emirates Group's financials are audited by outside institutions, they finance their aircraft and post bonds like any other carrier which require detailed and verifiable financials . They don't do stuff that doesn't aim to make money unlike their cousins down the road. They are all about profit and are one of the most cost conscious and miserly employers I've ever worked for, much moreso than B6. Some years they post profits and everyone gets profit sharing, sometimes they don't and the cuts to qol for their crews are rather draconian.

Right right and Emirates is a private company right?
on paper Emirates is a private company...........it just so happens that The Emirates Group is mostly made up of the Emirati Royal family ....... I mean of you call that private more power to you...but if Norwegian Air Shuttle majority shareholder was King Harald V?......would by Western Standars that be called "Private"?

Yes it absolutely is, however they are subject to the same fuel costs as anyone else at the outstations....where sometimes it was cheaper. Believe it or not we routinely tankered fuel often landing just short of mlw INTO DXB due to the price being cheaper at the outstation.

Its not a private company, not even on paper, I never claimed it was, it's a semi-governmental agency. And yes it IS audited by a major UK financial institution. Its not "mostly made up of the Emirati Royal Family", however it most certainly is led by one if that's what you mean. The most common misconception is that Dubai subsidizes EK Group, it's actually the other way around however yes their government actually supports their aviation sector as opposed to stifles it like it does in the US. EK generates its revenue by stealing the traffic flows that traditionally routed through European Legacy carriers in past decades, by providing ground/catering services across the world (Do you ever see the Dnata catering trucks catering our aircraft in LAX and SFO? Do you see Dnata staff boarding our aircraft in LHR? That's Emirates Group) and by running the 4th largest freight airline in the world by tonnage flown in the bellies of all those widebodies. The fact remains sometimes they post a profit and provides a "dividend" to the "owner", yes the Dubai government, other years it posts a loss and doesn't.... it's purpose to make money for Dubai and their leaders, not to loose it. I'm not defending HOW they make it, but the reality of EK is very different than ALPA led people to believe during their crusade against the ME3 before they moved to their next cause dejour to fill their PAC coffers. Again not defending their practices just trying to provide clarity from someone that dealt with that horrible place 1st hand. It's there to make money in the most brutal ways.

Nope that would be Etihad....which is an ego driven constant money looser. EK Group's mission is profit for its major (and only) shareholder..... the Investment Corperation of Dubai which is owned by the Government. All EK financial reports are audited by one of the "big 4" financial accounting institutions. PriceWaterhouseCoopers... don't let facts get in the way of a good 3rd hand narrative meant to wind you up Oh well EK is now cozy with United now, hope they enjoy their new bedfellow.
