It's an over 6 hour drive from there to Boston, and the healthcare is not very good in northern Maine. Lots of people have to go to Boston for specialized care. Being able to fly is a huge plus. This makes more sense than flights to EWR

Hardly. EWR offers way more connections then BOS. People aren’t generally using this flight to get to a hub.

I totally disagree.

When I flew at Colgan and we operated this city pair, the vast majority of the customers WERE going to BOS for medical care.

Get over it. We're united states , we take care of each other even if it doesn't benefit us personally because that makes us all better off.

I have a friend that does angel flight, and the vast majority of the flights in New England are between northern Maine and Boston.

how did you know that information? Did you ask every passenger as they walked on the airplane?

“ OK Capt. you get the plane ready while I stand here and ask every passenger why they’re flying on our flight today. If they happen to have a Band-Aid or sneeze, will just assume they’re seeking medical care.”

When a plane has 34 seats and you fly back and forth to one station where everyone knows everyone- it’s not difficult to have a general consensus.

Cape Air flights from the far north were often the same type of customer.

okay let’s assume you did a back-and-forth a couple time a day like you were saying. so 4 legs for that day. That’s 4×34=134

you were saying you know personally all your 134 passengers, just for that one day?!

like the Capt. personally knows the passenger in 2A?? The FO knows the passenger sitting behind him??

The gate agent personally knows the passenger in 10B??

” Hi Frank, going in for your weekly colonoscopy in Boston again I see! See you next week!”

I think you’re doing a little too much assuming.

I need to bring back the glory days of aviation. Halfway through cruise put on a Pan Am hat and take a stroll through the aisle and start to greet all the passengers… take selfies with them sign their airplane cards and arm cast…

either that, or I need to start paying attention more to my passengers on my flight.

I think you are underestimating the power of a small station and a VERY tight knit community. This isn't your typical outstation. This is a part of the country where everyone knows everyone and the agents were intimately familiar with where people were going and why they were travelling. So yes, I did know for a fact what the motivation for a lot of the travelling was.

Also - to be fair we weren't full. As with typical EAS the majority of the flights were 10 or less people.

My point being there is a large demand for local traffic because BOS is the closest, high quality cancer treatment available.
