Listen to a Delta or United earnings call sometime. Ontime and good customer service is foundational to profitability.

But go drop the brake at D+8 and be a dick on the PA, see how that works out for you.

Who didn't see this coming? The caliber of "talent" they've hired in the back in the last 4 years, the milquetoast leadership inflight has with that campaign they're doing, the freakshow union president they have.

What a disaster. I dread flying with anyone hired 2019 or later. God help them if they have to work a PBI-HPN.

Amongst other things. Delta hired very smart people to develop innovative ideas on how to generate massive profits. Novel thought.

My wife is a FA for DAL and I was shocked to see some of their work rules. No cancellation pay, no written attendance policy, no protections.

It's not all pay rates and profit sharing that makes up employee costs.

That might be part of it, but not the whole reason. Delta does in fact get a revenue premium, and they are not shy about telling wall Street about that revenue premium. Without the revenue premium, they would be much less profitable, all else being equal, regardless of other factors.

Now that revenue premium doesn't come from the non-union work groups, that would be represented on the cost side of the ledger, not the revenue side.

Right, but that is on the cost side of the ledger. We were discussing how Delta gets a revenue premium, and you don't get more revenue by not paying your FAs for cancellations.

Delta is profitable because it makes $6.8 billion a year from their credit card. They posted a $4.6 billion profit in 2023. You do the math. They would not be profitable without their credit card and loyalty program. Crazy right?

More to that picture tho. They have a robust MX shop and have government contracts as well. I also heard that number is closer to 5 billion a year. Truthfully, I haven’t looked at their numbers very close, but they have multiple revenue streams to pull from, not just flights and CC loyalty program

This 👆🏻 I wanna say that have 4 maybe 5 different revenue streams they pull from, and they are cleaning up on the credit cards.

Something like in the low 50% range of their revenue is from AmEx, Cargo ops and their Maintenance shop.
