Clearly they need more frequent bids, and more cowbell. I mean culture.

The question is whether the company’s cost savings of running quarterly bids instead would make up for the resultant mismatches in vacation allocations.

I’m guessing that, if someone went back and modeled it out retro to 2018, quarterly bids would have saved them lots and lots of money, even with our present vacation system.

Having not bid anything different in a system bid in years...what difference does it make as far as vacation goes?

Vacation is base and position specific. Under the old quarterly system if you bid a new base or position you lost your vacation if it was after your transfer. Much like the base trade system is today.

under the yearly system you bid for position and base and the company knows where you’ll be and we then a month later bid for vacation. You keep your vacation even if you’ll be moving around the system because they know you’re moving and you bid within the group you’ll be in at the time.

Yes!! At Skywest it was monthly bids, so no big deal whatsoever. The company gets a ton of flexibility and people can move around more regularly. Obviously you put some restrictions on it, so there aren't tons of extra training events, but once or twice a year is bad for all sides.

I’ve got a secret for you guys. It was ALPA who proposed and wanted the yearly bid.

Why would they do that? The same reason they wanted our atrocious reserve grid?

They may have proposed it as a solution to the "lose your vacation" problem, but I wouldn't say they "wanted" it.

I think we need more frequent bids, but should also keep our vacation if we change base or seats.
