It is not that we have positive aircraft growth. We are replacing outgoing aircraft and the outgoing aircraft have outpaced the incoming aircraft and then add new aircraft MX problems. Our network if it can be called that is not growing, it is shrinking. If someone thinks that going to PQI is growth they are totally wrong.

Incoming aircraft has kept pace. In fact, retaining the 11 to be retired jets will make us positive for the year. The 220s are coming at the same pace as 190s leaving.

That doesn’t take into account the PW parked airplanes but those aren’t parked because we’re shrinking. They’re kind of the cause of the temporary shrink.

The BA codeshare is positive news and I’m happy to see some proactive moves being made.

So....middle of summer flying....and we're paying 90+ JFK Bus CAs to stay home....in July...Let that sink in for how out of whack our staffing is.

Remember last year when the bid had big negative numbers in JFK CA and BOS CA as they increased MCO and FLL? Not nearly enough JFK and BOS guys took the move to Florida, meaning that JFK and BOS were then overstaffed to some degree (JFK more than BOS). That is why we continue to see VILs offered in that seat, and we will continue to see them in that seat until the bids eventually fix that overstaffed situation. It isn't so much that the whole airline is overstaffed. It's that certain seats in certain places are fatter than needed.

Yeah, I get that not as many went to Florida as planned. The company still builds the pairings month to month and distributes the flying between the bases. Just because not as many guys went to FL as planned doesn't mean they can't reaccomodate now for that right?

They could, but then there are more deadheads and hotel costs. I dunno.

Not exactly. Instead of doing a JFK turn out of MCO, they do an MCO turn out of JFK, etc. Plus, with in-base layovers, they can do a lot of things to accommodate. That’s my issue when guys just want language to get rid of in-base layovers in the contract. That alone won’t fix the bad pairings. Instead of flying JFK-MCO-JFK on day 1 and then a 12 hour 3-day to create a 20 hour 4-day, they just tweek day 1 to JFK-MCO-BOS and create the same 20 hour 4-day.

Of course we are overstaffed company wide. It has nothing to do with how staffing is distributed otherwise it would have been displacements and forced moves. But for now VILs are cheaper than furloughing, downgrades and eventually recalls.

No, not that simple.

When the company wanted all those CAs to leave JFK/BOS for Florida, they created vacancies in Florida. The company expected those vacancies to be filled by existing CAs, leaving NYC/BOS. Those CAs mostly didn't choose to move, but the vacancies still existed, which were filled by others, probably mostly upgrades into those seats by FOs that already lived in Florida. The result was more CAs in NYC/BOS than they hoped, and all those CA vacancies in Florida filled by other CAs and FO upgrades... Overstaffed in the left seat.

Why they didn't do a survey to see how many guys actually wanted to bid Florida is beyond me. Just dumb.
